MLB 2024

I feel bad for Rowdy. He hasn’t been a super valuable player for the Pirates this season, but he hasn’t been their worst position player either. Other Pirates are probably more worthy of being cut than him. IMHO it’s obviously all about saving the $200k. Just more evidence that Pittsburgh is not a serious Major League franchise. (Unless there’s the off-chance that he was a bad personality / bad clubhouse kind of guy… but then why wait this long to cut him? 😂 Ever since coming up with the Jays, he has always seemed like such a genuinely nice and likeable dude.)

I loved him in Milwaukee and saw no evidence of a bad attitude. He had a bad September, but what's the point of releasing him with a week to go if it's not the money?

Yep. One of only five players on the team to hit double digit home runs. A better batting average than McCutcheon. Top 10 in batting average on the roster.
Nutting is making about $115,000,000 a year to own the Pirates. He ain't gonna walk away from that.

It's sad that he won't consider making $114,800,000 this year. It's a shame what he's done to the Pirates. Their fans deserve better.

I was at a car show this morning and met a guy wearing a Cardinals embroidered button-down and carrying a Cardinals phone case. I introduced myself as a fellow Cards sufferer. He turned out to be one of those guys that can quote the stats of every player. Spends time on multiple Cards sites daily, etc. He says to expect announcements of a major shakeup of the front office and coaching staff starting as early as Monday. I will be praying very hard this weekend!!!!!!!

I'm hoping for Chaim Bloom. Mo needs to Go!

This was one of the top articles on The Athletic today, so you’ve gotta assume something big will be announced before long! I’m super curious to know what insider info Katie has that she maybe can’t share yet.

Hopefully a major redo. In the past 10ish years they've had too much talent to be that bad. Something is thwarting development and utilization of players. That has to be management.

Hang in there. The Rockies clinched their 100th loss yesterday. No joy in Mudville, but we ain't the White Sox.
Lots of respect here for Charlie Blackmon, who will be retiring tonight after 14 years with the Rockies. A very good man both on and off the field. It would be great see him hit another homer in his very last game.

So now it's a DH between the Mets & Braves to decide Arizona's fate, who needs one team to sweep; a split knocks them out. Nothing against the D-backs but, being someone that just wants to watch the MLB world burn, I'm hoping for a split so both the Mets and the Braves move on and have to immediately compete with (presumably) zero fresh arms as a result of having played 2 games on Monday.

As a Brewer fan, I'd rather see the Mets than the DBacks just based on the results from this season and particularly the last week. As a baseball fan, I love the wild finish.

Cubs finished 83-79--exactly the same record as last year. I'll wait for deeper analysis, but at first glance this doesn't seem to justify the big Craig Counsell signing.
Agreed - and he had arguably a better roster than Ross did, as well. Continuing the Cubs theme, yet another story out linking Alonso with the Cubs (and Mariners) if he doesn't stay with the Mets. Back before they made the deal for Michael Busch I'd have been all "heck yeah!" but I don't understand why they'd do that now. Busch was a bit of a question mark at 1B but ramped up pretty quickly from potential liability to darned good fielder with a .996 fielding % and some highlight plays. His bat got better through the year as well, with good plate discipline (4 walks today!) and 21 HR's. I thought he played into the kind of player the Dodgers saw when they drafted him in the 1st round. So signing Alonso for goodness knows how much $$ AND giving the Mets a draft pick after having traded for Busch who then goes on to perform well just makes no sense to me. I mean it's not like Alonso's contract ending was a secret.

Of course a lot of times these stories are created by player's agents whispering in the right ears to generate interest and keep the bidding high. I just saw another story linking Alonso with the Cards which kind of makes more sense as Goldschmidt will be FA, too, so at least there's a vacancy there to be dealt with.

I'm looking forward to a full season of PCA in CF, a repeat of a very good season by Happ and *hopefully* a season where Seya is healthy all year. Still not sold on Paredes at 3B (Morel trade made no sense IMO) so if there's signing to be done do it THERE (or show us some prospects).
