MLB 2024

1981
Last year of a Yankees/Dodgers Series

So 43 years ago. Looks like it's gonna happen this year.

(Hoping to jinx both)
The Mets aren’t dead just yet..! I expect the Dodgers to get past them, but you never know in October.

I don’t have much interest in a Mets/Yankees World Series, so I’m hoping that doesn’t happen 😅

I’ve gotta say, the last few seasons Giancarlo Stanton has looked rather washed. But his performance this postseason has been impressive. Wasn’t sure he had it in him anymore. He’s still on contract for longer than the Yankees would like at his age… but if he helps them win a World Series this year then I’m sure they can live with that.

That's one of the advantages of a virtually unlimited budget. You can whiff on a huge signing, add a bunch of other superstars, then still reap the benefits if the first guy happens to bounce back.

As good as they've been, I think our bullpen was flat worn out and overused this series. No matter how this ALCS turned out, I'm thrilled to have been watching Cleveland this late into the season. Nobody expected this back in April, especially after Bieber went down for the entire seaon after just 2 starts. It's even more impressive when you look at the payroll figures for the 4 teams that were remaining. We played against 3x the roster money can buy:

Mets $317.7 million (1st in MLB)
Yankees $309.4 million (2nd in MLB)
Dodgers $241 million (5th in MLB)
Guardians $106.4 million (23rd in MLB)

I really wish there was more parity in professional baseball, but it makes Cleveland's accomplishments this year even more fantastic.

Certainly easier to win when you spend big, but it's no guarantee. Mets stunk last year, and this year, a good chunk of the salary is going to players no longer on the team (Verlander and Scherzer). Last year Arizona made the world series, and this year you had Cleveland and Detroit.

But yeah, I'd like to see a hard salary cap (with limited deferrals), and a salary floor. I'd even take a modified floor -say if you finish under .500 more than one year in a row, you don't get revenue sharing.

I was sorry the Guardians lost. Although a Dodger/Yankees series is long overdue. It’s hard to believe it’s been 43 years. Hopefully the Dodgers finish it out tonight. Another bullpen game.

Here’s my trusty old school hat that I bought at game 2 of the ‘81 NLCS. A tough Fernando loss. This hat has been to a few hundred games.
