For what little it cost the Yankees, I wonder if a team like Seattle (or Toronto!) ought to have made a deal with Chicago for Bellinger. He’s a rather volatile hitter and could turn out to be bad… Definitely not an MVP candidate anymore. But he’s also got solid upside.

I like what is happening with the SFGiants under Buster Posey. He played on W.S. wining teams that won in San Francisco by prioritizing pitching and defense. Signing Adames as S.S. is a great starts. With Chapman at third and Adames at short some say the Giants will a great infield on the left side. Tyler Fitzgerald may opens some eyes this year at second base. They need a solid bat at first base until 19-year-old Bryce Edlridge is ready for the big leagues and that may happen by 2026 or even late in the season in 2025. Patrick Bailey is rock solid behind the plate and still has many years to get even better.
Not surprised that Blake Snell is gone and not too concerned about that. He was awesome in the second half of the season but a liability in the first half. Logan Webb is not only a great pitcher he is also a horse who can give the team lots of innings. Not sure about Robbie Ray but hoping for the best. The experiment with converting Jordan Hicks to a starter looked great the first half until he ran out of gas. Hopefully he can come back and go deeper into the season as a starter in 2025. Lots of young arms like Kyle Harrison and Hayden Birdsong too. The bullpen is solid too.There is a rumor that the Giants are the front runner for Corbin Burnes, that would be a great acquisition. Posey said that signing Sasaski would be a dream. My guess is the stinking Dodgers will grab another front tier player.
Great outfield too with Jung Ho Lee, Mike Yastzemski and Heliot Ramos.
The NL West Coast may be the toughest division in MLB but it is a long season and I believe the Giants have a shot at the playoffs.

I miss Adames already. He has a tendency to go on strikeout binges, but he was able to get that under better control last year.

The reports are that his is also a great presence in the clubhouse and an all around good guy. The Giants say they what to build a time around people with those qualities. Posey definitely had those qualities, hopefully they learned their lesson with Barry Bonds. (not a good presence in the clubhouse and with a tendency to act like a jerk).

Adames is your man, then. He brought joy to the ballpark every day. I will root for him right up until they face the Brewers in the NLCS.

Pirate owner Bob Nutting is currently not working at improving his ball club through the holidays. He’ll probably resume “the chair” come the first part of January and then accomplish as much progress as he did while on Holiday.

The SFGiants once again miss out on a top tier free agent with Corbin Burnes. Or did they? The 30-year-old pitcher received a six year contract. He is still a great pitcher but his strike out rate has been steadily declining. How many years does he have left in him? Are the Giants just playing it conservative so they can seriously go after Sasaki? Wouldn't that be nice.

Sounds like Burnes just really wanted to pitch in AZ. He lives there. Apparently the Jays and Giants might have offered more money.

It’s always interesting to learn more about a player’s priorities after they’ve signed somewhere. Sasaki could go anywhere since it’s not really about money for him yet, like buldog noted. Does Sasaki just want to win? Does he care more about his own growth and development and less about being in a World Series anytime soon? I don’t think anybody knows except him and his agent. I could see him signing with the Dodgers. But I could also see him going elsewhere to be guaranteed a spot in the rotation every fifth day. LAD has a solid amount of rotation depth. If he signs there and struggles in April/May, you could envision him losing his rotation spot to go work on stuff. The team is trying to win and can’t mess around. But if he signed with, say, the Angels, then he’ll have a lot more flexibility to work through struggles without getting demoted.

True, but I don't understand why myself. San Francisco is not a home run hitters ball park at all, but it is a pitcher friendly ballpark. What the team needs is good pitching, good defense (they are working on that) and hitters who can get on base and score runs.

SF has to compete with Seattle as the place batting averages go to die. It makes Edgar's and Ichiro's careers even more impressive. Griffey didn't play in the new ballpark until he was about to retire. He does own part of the team now, so there is that.
