For once, the Mariners have done next to nothing in the off-season. Considering how poorly their recent acquisitions have played, it may not be such a bad thing. They have a healthy farm system for a change. As the pathological optimist, I predict that there will be breakout stars coming up as rookies and that Julio will get his mojo back, propelling the Mariners all the way this season.

They are in good shape with starting pitchers. They are in OK shape with relievers. In both cases it's provided the injury bug doesn't bite them. They seem to have what could be a good outfield. Short, catcher, and maybe first are settled. Second and third? Some guy, I guess. But, if Trader Jerry doesn't do something nuts this off-season, maybe it's a good sign.

SFGiants gave Verlander a one year contract. Does the 42-year-old have anything left in the tank? Hoping he does, he will also be a great mentor for all of the young Giants pitchers and hopefully give the young guys time to develop into great pitchers. The Giants haven't publicly said this but I have noticed they are very stingy when it comes to long term contracts. They gave a 7 year contract to shortstop Willy Adames but they let pitcher Blake Snell sign a five year deal with the the Dodgers. Snell was lights out in the second half of the season but can he pitch until he is 37-years old?
Buster Posey has a lot of work to do to turn this team around but I believe he is headed in the right direction. It could take some time and I am sure the some Giants fans won't be happy if the team doesn't turn things around right away. I am patient and looking forward to some great games in 2025. The rival Dodgers have one of the greatest team in MLB on paper, but as most of us know any team still needs to win games no matter how great they look.

The Giants home field is a tough park for hitters, so it stands to reason why sluggers would be reluctant to play there. However it is a great ballpark for pitchers, you would think they could attract more pitchers. Still hoping for Roki Sasaki that would be sweet.

Sasaki reportedly choosing between three teams

With the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes in the home stretch, it appears the Japanese phenom has started to narrow down his choices. After he began informing teams that were no longer in the running early on Monday, only three clubs remained: the Dodgers, Padres and Blue Jays, according to a report from MLB Network insider Jon Heyman.

A source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand that the Yankees have been informed that Sasaki will not be signing with them.

The Giants have also been informed that they are no longer in consideration for the coveted hurler, San Francisco general manager Zack Minasian told reporters on Monday.

According to multiple reports, Sasaki is not expected to sign with the Mets, either. The Rangers are also out of the running, a source told MLB.com's Kennedi Landry, as well as the Cubs, per reports.

They were apparently very close to signing Burnes as well. If they come up short with Sasaki too then that's gonna be disappointing... but at least they've been in the running.

The Giants traded catcher/outfielder Blake Sabol to the Red Sox for international bonus pool space. Not sure what that means but I'm guessing they have their eye on an international amateur. I liked Sabol, his numbers don't show it but I remember him coming through with his bat when the Giants really needed it. They are deep in catching so he was probably on his way out anyway.

The Giants made a big international signing today (Josuar Gonzalez) so I guess the Sabol trade helped make that happen. Gonzalez is apparently very highly rated as a prospect.

A whole bunch of teenagers got signed by the Mariners, including a 16 year old. I guess they are using up their international signing money because they won't be signing any Japanese players. Oh, well.

They did trade some cash for a more or less minor league catcher. That's the polite way of saying the bought him from somebody. I think it was the Orioles, but it was such an uninspiring trade that I don't even remember.

I'm devastated. Uecker has been calling the Brewer games since the year before I was born. This will be only the second Brewer season without Mr. Baseball behind the mic. Back in the day, the Brewers were only on TV 18-20 times per season, so I listened to over a hundred games a season. When I lived in Florida, I subscribed to the MLB audio service so I could listen. Baseball is my passion, and I learned a lot by listening to Uecker. We were so lucky to have him in Milwaukee.

RIP Mr. Baseball.
