MM Bongo 6 string?

Hey all,

It seems like I remember people talking a few months back about the introduction of a Music Man Bongo 6 string. Does anybody know if such a beast will come into existence? I find the idea of a Bongo 6 very interesting. Thanks for any input.

John Myung of Dream Theater was seen pictured with a MM Bongo 5er which he apparently used on the latest album, and he's been playng 6-strings for years, so that spurred a discussion about a comment that someone had heard from EB about a possible 6-string Bongo, so I think that cemented a rumour that otherwise would have gone under the radar. It would be great to see a 6-string Bongo, but Ernie Ball is somewhat stubborn in some design decisions, the green Dargies being a nice example. That's all I know about it.

The Bongo 6 does exist. They have been making a few and refining the design. It's not released yet though.

OoOoOo sexy. That looks so much more elegant and stylish than the Bongo 5er's and 6er's.

According to EBMM it'll be in existence on the Summer NAMM. Let's wait and see.

Wow, for some reason I had never particularly cared for the Bongo until I saw this.

It looks so much more beautiful with the 4x2 headstock and in white with the high contrast.

I want one.

It's not certain, that's fo sho. Sterling Ball has said they're gonna try different materials to get it balanced.

Is it me or does the string spacing look even tighter than on the 5 string?????

Now that's a nice Bongo. No pickguard + transluscent paint = instant class.

I suspect it's unpainted because it's just a prototype.. the actual production run will likely have the full finish. There's no logos on the headstock, which is what lead me to that conclusion.

Yep, it's not painted because it's a prototype. They're looking at issues of balance etc. and having a nice finish on it is the last of their concerns. I believe the pickup is just a mockup at the moment.

Yeah. The pickups are still being worked on, they haven't gotten it "just right" yet. The one in that pictured bass is a blank.

Heh--that "translucent paint" on the sixer is nothing more than unfinished basswood.

The 5 string prototype next to it is ash, though.

Oh, and saxnbass--did you get EB's okay before you leeched their prototype pictures and used their bandwidth to post them here as opposed to hosting them somewhere else?
