The 6 string prototypes are all made of basswood. the only Ash bass is the prototype 5 string shown next to a basswood 6 string.

That said, they are currently working with different woods to work on balance. So, maybe an ash Bongo 6 is on the way. Maybe not.

I do know that everyone there at EB is in love with the mahogany tone blocks of the 20th Anniversary SR5s. Maybe something in the works there, too.

The guys actually designing the Bongo 6, making designs on the computers, running it through the CNC machine, assembling them together, etc., have said the ones shown so far are basswood. That said, they all look hawt!

I saw a post on the EBMM forums from Sterling Ball himself... it's basswood. Really, really nice looking basswood.

Well, the one in the Yahmaha was basically a copy of the Musicman pickup. Why get the copy when you can get the real thing? I know theres some subtle differences, but I'm sure Music Man will wind a pickup for him if he asks nicely.

Going a little off topic, but to echo Ian, it is a shame that JM can't be heard in the mix. You see his fingers going 1000 mph, but all your hear is kick drum and guitar. And is not because the bass he's using. I bet he will still be way back there in the mix even when he starts using the Bongo.

Not any of one built yet, no. But, they made 6 bodies, and 6 necks--two of each pickup config. You'll see pics eventually. Probably after they've actually made some 6 string pickups.

It felt a bit wide at first (duh) but once you adjust to how wide the neck is, it plays like a dream.
