MM humbuckers coil tap questions

aggreed. I got a start as a teenager back in the 80's when I read Adrian Legg's book on custom guitar wiring. He calls it a coil tap. And so have I and all other guitarists and tech I've met ever since. But for some reason on this forum the term gets shouted down. I just assumed it was an American english thing. (Legg is English, I am Australian, we spell and speak correctly. :D)

Oh and we also use the metric system.:thumbsup:

I had a Sting Ray a while back that someone had done a coil split mod on. While interesting, I did not find it to be earth-shattering by any means and sold the bass fairly soon. The mod devalued the bass somewhat too as you might expect.

This plus the recommendation of the SD NYC is exactly what I needed to know about this bridge pup.

Would this NYC pair up well with a SD QP? Either the regular or the Steve Harris ones are AlNiCo 5, the NYC is AlNiCo 2; trying to compare apples to apples because I'm more familiar with DiMarzios.

NYC Bridge DCR 4.4k
SHQP DCR 13k
Antiquity Jazz bridge for reference DCR 8.7k

All show similar yellow in their output graph, while the standard QP P pup shows much higher output at lower DCR. So going just by the output graph, can I say the one won't totally overpower the other?

For further comparison the Model J/Model P/Model One setup I was originally looking at would have been output 150/200/163 respectively, so not all equal but not all that far off each other. I assume P style pups are hotter by nature than other styles I'm looking at here? With each getting its own vol pot I think I could tame it and make them live together, unless someone has some helpful answer as to why it can't be done.

Model J DCR 6.8k (doesn't specify if that's neck, bridge, or combined. However they list the ultra jazz bridge and neck at the same DCR for each)
Model P DCR 11.5k
Model One DCR 11.3k

Or do you think the bass deity would allow me to mix brands and do NYC/Model P/Model One? Those adjustable pole pieces are sexy.
