MM S.U.B.

I just bought a SUB off of Eyeballkid here on TB! It's on its way to me this week... my first SUB and first bass. This thread is making me very impatient to try it out, and *so* glad I made this choice.

So I put my SUB up for sale cos I needed to raise some funds as the 3 other things I had for sale werent selling. I didnt wanna sell that SUB at all! Slobbo you'll love it!... so the SUB sold, and THEN everyone wanted to buy my other listings, and someone hit me up for a pedal too, so ya know what? I just bought 57fender's SUB with the finished neck!!!! I didnt wanna sell mine, and now I could afford to buy one back and figured I always wanted to strip my neck and try the active model.. so one SUB gone, another coming in! LOL!!! Slobbo, if you ever decide to let my SUB go, think about it real hard, but let me know first! youll love her!

Sorry its Plek....some kind of mechanised laser neck alignment thingy.

Might be best left for a new thread

PLEK'd technology is pretty cool; my Lakland JO-4 bass came with it. Basically, a feeler gauge goes up and down the fretboard dozens of times and evens out the frets as it goes. It's kinda like LASIK for your bass...

One thing it doesn't replace though, is the Luthier. There are just some things that have to be done by feel, the most subjective adjustments like action, angle, and texture should still be left for the human eyes and hands to create.

Loving your passive SUB so far, eyeball...

Just recorded with a 2003ish SUB 2 band passive (no batteries).

Great bright sound balanced by solid tone. No complaints.

Temptation was to crank treble and bass on max but found rolling back both made more sense.

After more reflection the SUB passive nailed the midrange growl as well as an early Stingray and just as playable.

The truth is that a Stingray still sounds like a Stingray if you bypass the preamp, contrary to what some say who claim you need the preamp.

A passive stingray still sounds like a stingray, it just does not have the ability to tweak the tone like an active one does... but the "spirit" is most definitely there.

I don't think they can go up in price much. There's still room, but consider what 2EQ Stingrays go for used. That would be the very limit. Actually less, because people would rather spend an extra $100 if that buys them a Stingray. So, what is the maximum we are talking here? Absolute max of $500, on a good day? And they already in for 350-400, so... not much room to "skyrocket", in my opinion.

The 5 string probably can fetch more, as it has the oval pickguard unlike the SR5, so it has a unique selling point.

Just picked one up in good condition for $900
