MM S.U.B.

I paid $1000 couple of years ago for brand new charcoal grey SUB + hardcase.

Not thinking of trading it for a while.

If I wanted more MM would consider a good used Stringray but otherwise would prefer a new pbass.

I just bought a SUB off of Eyeballkid here on TB! It's on its way to me this week... my first SUB and first bass. This thread is making me very impatient to try it out, and *so* glad I made this choice.

You're gonna be hooked! I saw Eyeball's SUB and if it plays half as good as it looks, well... you're gonna have some jealous basses in your stable... :p

finish indestructible, great for gigging, being drunk and travelling around russia with etc. the finish on the neck started wearing off and literally sticking to my hands. fixed this last summer by sanding it down and refinishin with gun stock oil and wax. recommended.

i've had some problems with the neck though. the truss rod is as loose as it gets, and i still barely get enough relief. i searched for advice for this here in the past, but the only solution (that i haven't tried) seemed to be to heat it up and bend it.

i also experience pretty horrible buzz centered around the 12th fret on the A string. still wouldn't wanna raise the saddles further as the action isn't very low. i'm no expert in setting up basses and haven't checked the fret levels that thorougly. if i had money i could hand it in to a pro, maybe just to see what they say.

Hard to say without seeing the bass, but some of what you say makes me think you just might improve things a lot with a well placed tiny shim at the neck joint... it can give you more relief and help you bring those saddles down...
Definitely one to take to a tech. You may be able to transform your bass with very little money being exchanged. He can see what is needed, fret level etc...

hm, didn't think about this. and let me clarify: the relief is at a good level now (fretting the first and fifteenth fret there is a tiny gap), but if the wood changes due to weather etc it won't go further.

but at some time i will take it to a tech. never done that so maybe i could learn a thing or two in the process.

good idea - and I would suggest no 'maybe' about it....techs can do wonders :bassist:

My senior pastor at our last church where I was the youth pastor had a Music Man SUB bass. I played it many times and really liked it. I also have a Music Man Stingray Classic. Both are great basses but both are definitely different. I'm not going to knock his bass as it is very good but I do prefer the regular Stingrays and the Classic Stingrays over them. But if you can find one of those basses and you are on a budget, you can't go wrong. It was actually from playing his SUB bass that led me to eventually switching to Music Man basses from Ibanez basses because I was so impressed with it.
