MM Style pickup that is suited for a neck position role....

So yeah, I'm getting my Stargazer refinished and getting the jazz in the neck position routed for another MM. I know it's not the "traditional" spot for a double MM style bass, ala double buck or something but I figured I'd try it. I tend to use the bridge pickup more than anything so if I hate it...eh. One of the main reason's for the route and new pickup is because I kind of went crazy with the drimmel when I was fitting the new jazz, thanks SDG! You said the pickups would be a direct drop in replacement. Well, the MM was, the neck? Nope.

What do you guys think? Options? Thought? Concerns?

Maybe you could try explaining a little more clearly what you're asking.

Are you asking if it's a good idea to put a MM pickup in the neck position? (Sure, why not!)
Are you asking if there's a particular MM pickup that is especially good in the neck position? (Not that I know of--probably makes a difference which bridge pickup you're trying to pair it with)
Or is there something else that you're asking about?

Haha, was the above post thick as mud? It might be, I'm reading it again and it might be. Basically, I was searching for neck position MM style picksups and not surprising there really isn't any. I'm thinking that due to the pickup positioning I might want to go for a lower output + brighter pickup, no? But yes, right now I have a set of SGD Neo-3's and the bridge pickup has always sounded fantastic but the neck pickup just hasn't done much for me. It can definitely go low but it lacks any really clarity.

Gotcha! Yeah, the SGD is probably somewhat different from most things you'll be able to find. Nordstrand makes Neo dual-coils in the typical soapbar shapes, but I don't know if anyone is making them in MM shape, and from what you're saying, maybe a Neo is not what you're looking for anyway.

Some people really seem to like the Lace Man-O-War MM's (
Lace Man O War Jazz Bass Pickups - Best Bass Gear but I don't have any experience with them.

Maybe I should give a pair of these lace pickups ago? I'm not against removing the SGD to get a better overall sound. I have other MM style basses I can put that pickup in. I love this bass, it is my favorite. I've done quite a few gigs with it and have noticed that in my main band it can be a bit too aggressive? I don't know. I was manly fishing for recommendations and you gave me one. I'll do a bit more reading and hope a few others chime with the their opinion.
