modding my T-40

Dude, that's looking just awesome. This is my current favorite thread. The improvement in the burst from the first photos to this one is huge!

sanded the lacquer down, and then used 3m super duty rubbing compound on it, followed by maguires show car glaze. there's still some squirl marks I'd rather not have, so I'm going to try something else to get them out

but you have to hold the bass in a certain light to see them, from 12 inches away this thing looks great, if I do say so myself

plays great, better than before because I messed with the neck tilt while I put back together.


and the weight? this is very interesting...

This body was 5.2lbs when I started, an I got it down to 4.2. I just weighed the old body by itself, and it said 6.4! so I saved over a pound just by switching bodies. Between the lighter body and the routing that I did, the new bass is...

9.6 lbs!!!

that's about a 3 pound loss, which I don't really understand because I thought I only lost a pound because of the routing, but three pounds lighter is HUGE

I was hoping for a little less than 10, so this project has been so worth it. I'm thrilled

That looks excellent! How (if at all) has it effected the tone? And is that a reflection on the top horn?

There is a light vein of lighter wood in the horn, don't know why but I don't mind it

I have a unfinished T40 project. I bought one with no electronics in it and I put two Music Man pickups in it. after reading this, I think some routing and reshaping are in order. (after the pinewood derby of course. lol)

thanks guys! been through two band practice with it, and I can tell you after three hours of practice each, my shoulder can feel the difference.

the test is saturday... a 4 hour gig...

first four hour gig with it last night.... shoulder is a little sore today, but nothing like it used to be. It's amazing what losing three pounds can do for the bass
