Modeling, Pre, DI ????

Before anyone responds with the search feature answer; I have already performed a search. I may not know how to ask what I am looking for. Then again, I may not be looking in the right places. Whatever the case may be, someone help me out.

I play all Hartke gear. I like the Hartke stuff, and I like the tone and sound I get. However, I have been playing and filling in for several different bassists lately that use different gear such as SWR and Ampeg.

Is there a modeling processor that will give me a sound close to SWR and Ampeg? Something that is along the lines of the Hartke Attack pedal or the Aguilar box? I'm not 100% what I am looking for, I only know I need my tone altered slightly to blend with what these bands have recorded.

I do not want to purchase a multi-effects pedal. I don't want a rack mount unit either, but if that's the direction I need to go, I will.

Oh, and purchasing a new head at this time isn't an option unless you have a 1000 watt SWR or Ampeg laying around in perfect condition for $300 or less.

Help

Please, feel free to ask questioins if I am not clear on what I am looking for. That could be as much help as the perfect answer.

There are lots of amp-modeling units; most of them are also "multi-effects" units. The word "modeling" is a good search term. I can suggest the Yamaha Magicstomp, it's pretty good, but that's the only modeling device I've used. Other brands include Zoom, Johnson, Line 6, Roland, and I'm sure several others.

If you mean Ampeg as in Ampeg tube amp tone, there's tons of gizmos out there to add a little tube-amp-style grit or warmth to your sound.
Look at something like the Tech 21 VT Bass pedal, or of course the trusty Sansamp BassDriver is a very useful tool to have on hand.

As for SWR---that's a very different sound from Ampeg typically. It just depends on specifically what tone you're after. Maybe try to explain that as opposed to referencing other amp brands, simply 'cause there's too many variables even to list as far as amps---there's clean and sterile Ampegs out there too!

Sounds like all you need is a Sansamp Bass Driver or the newer Bass Driver deluxe! I don't use one myself but I have in the past. It does a very good SVT type tone and it gives you a coupe of other options in one box. A lot easier to use than a POD XT Live or something from my experience.

Peace,

I've been thinking about the same problem. Tossing up between a Line 6 Pod or a Sansamp BDDI (I'll need a few sounds ready to go)

I get the feeling that the Sansamp will get me more of the tone I'm after but I'll be using it with a computer setup and midi accessable patch changes would be a plus. Anyone tried them side by side (or any other sansamp?)

Not a Behringer fan, but I am curious about this thing [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Is there anyone using it?
How true are the tones?
How does it stand up to touring, flights, etc?
Is there anything comparable in a brand we all know and trust?

I'm not a fan of the Beheringer Bass V-amp Pro. One I had was very hissy, and had a bad habit of breathing when idle regardless of Gate settings or patches.

I do like my Line6 X3, but it's capable of alot more then then just a Sansamp BDDI, etc. If you're looking for specific tones the Sansamps can be great, if you're looking for tones AND effects, etc in a rack or floor unit then the Pod's and others are great.
