Punk doesn't die just because the bands you liked don't play anymore.
I'm afraid I agree. The best bass for punk is whatever bass you like to play. But this is hardly helpful, is it?
What OP's really asking here is "what kind of bass would you bring to the studio to track a mainstream commercial punk album?" To which there are so many good answers... not touching it.
