I'm afraid I agree. The best bass for punk is whatever bass you like to play. But this is hardly helpful, is it?

What OP's really asking here is "what kind of bass would you bring to the studio to track a mainstream commercial punk album?" To which there are so many good answers... not touching it.

thank you, I'm not even gonna comment on people debating this topic anymore.

Punk is in the eye of the beholder.
I've also explained why I used the word "modern-punk" at least three times in this thread, if you don't understand why at this point (not you, but the people still debating this sh!t) you should probably jump of a cliff for a complete lack of reading comprehension

Because when a genre is undefined or represents a completely different sound or attitude to different people, the OP might as well have asked "What's the best bass for making music?"

Considering that the groups he mentioned would not be categorized as "punk" by pretty much anyone who has an opinion about punk, he would have been better off just naming the bands and leaving it at that.

sure... if you wanna phrase it that way you can (even though it's incorrect, but it seem a lot of people posting don't have too much between their ears so that will have to do)

and its not even what's good, I know what's good already, P-basses and MMs are my fav, but I'm just looking for alternatives that pump the same quality but offer some diversity in tone, if its more rumble or a more warm tone. Whatever it be.

If I want to name a real rooty punk band that's around today, id call em PUNK

Against Me abandoned their message to make awful music that isn't anything resembling punk in the slightest, and Gallows signed to a major out of the gate.

The attitude goes both ways. The OP's refusal to change, or acknowledge, and say 'hey my bad, I meant this...' is just as bad as people who nit-pick saying 'Fall Out Boy isn't punk, OMG! FML!'

Oh, my input to OP is consider a Moses graphite neck on a Warmoth or MIM Fender body. A bomb-proof, tight & punchy mongrel!

Look, I wasn't necessarily raging at you, but the general consensus in this thread has been that I'm a kid that doesn't know **** because of my definition of a genre. The fact is that because I'm a couple years younger than most posters on this sight does not mean that I know any less about music or bass, I consider myself a professional of sorts... but at the same time I come here to get advice from people that do have more experience than me, which is why I started this thread about BASSES not the definition of a genre. The condescending tone really pisses me off.

I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your post, but I hope you can at least see where I'm coming from.
