I definitely wouldnt consider them an emo band, mainly for the reason that theyve gone through puberty.

That's just too funny. Yeah but they two were once young punks trying to figure out the whole birds and bees thing. Many of the founding "emo" bands (although I hate to lump such great music with some of the new "examples") were any age really.

Who knows...I'll have to check Modest Mouse out for real one of these days and see how they perform live. To me, that's the true mark of a band, no matter the genre. Anyone can perform in a studio...

modest mouse is a great band and they have come along way I dont really care for there album "good news for people who love bad news" but that just me, there bass player Eric Judy creates really nice lines seen in "Dramamine" and most of the songs from "moon and Antarctica" if you have heard their song "float on" on the radio and got sucked in i highly recommend listening to there older stuff

I'll refer you to my previous post, where I said that they were influenced by bands such as SDRE.

And Modest Mouse has been out, what, 10 years now? That's pretty impressive for the genre. When I mentioned The Get Up Kids, I mentioned them on a genre-basis and not on Modest Mouse's impression of them. The Get Up Kids were still in school then...but TGUK have made some big influences on modern acts and modern perceptions of emo and emo-esque bands. I should not have lumped them in with the greats though. My mistake. I've never been a fan.

I'm a Modest Mouse fan, though I know the more recent albums better than the old ones. Very impressed, to me they actually have a Talking Heads vibe in a lot of their songs. I came across them on a recommendation from someone who knew I like Cold War Kids. I have not seen them live, anyone able to comment on their live shows? I saw some reviews suggesting it's hit or miss and that the front man sometimes gets drunk, forgets his lyrics and blows it.

I saw them at a festival after We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank came out, they were pretty good but Johnny Marr was in the band at that time and he was clearly the star of the show. I remember very little else of it, it was just pretty okay.
