Modulus Mob

Decided my Flea needed a little make over. Went from gloss to satin black.

I also just bought a brand new Modulus Funk Unlimited with that finish (Which is painted by themselves) :hyper:

The bad thing is just, I have to wait 3 more days to get it!!
I can't wait!! :hyper::hyper::hyper::eek:

By the way, is that the new Legacy PU, or an old one with the LP logo?
If it is the new, how does it sound compared to the Seymour duncan?

Congratulations! They're great basses.

That is an original Lane Poor pickup that used to be in a Lakland 44-94. It is actually a 4 conductor split coil, so I replaced the OBP-3 that came with the bass with a Mike Pope Flexcore that was intended for a two pickup configuration. This allows me to use the balance pot to use both coils together or each one individually. It's actually one of the most versatile "single" pickup basses I've ever played.

I believe that the SD's used in the FU were modeled after the old LP's, but I find that the combination of the Flexcore and LP really opened up the bass. To me, there is more clarity and definition, as well as a bit more growl.

The SD's that were modeled after LPs supposedly sounded like Fodera's SDs moreso than any LP I'd ever tried. I'm with you on the LP pickup really opening Moduli up- both with a former Flea I had and the Q6 I have now.

I'd love to hear a sample of how the LP/flexcore combo sounds.

Agreed, they just didn't sound very Flea-esque.

Well it might be a while to post some clips - I just sent the neck to Pat W. to have it refinished as well. The VJ I had with a satin neck spoiled me and during a recent heat wave, I decided I just couldn't take the stickiness from the gloss finish anymore on this one.

Question;

I had ordered a brand new (from a dealer) Modulus J-neck for $559. Today I scoped a couple of new VJ basses with a retail price of $3273. How does Modulus justify the remaining $2714? I see you can get Hipshot (amongst others) tuners AND a bridge brand new for about $157. And I'll give $200 for pickups. Maybe $1.99 for a string tree. And then the body/preamp if any. I've been trying to figure this out but it doesn't make sense to me. Thanks guys.
