That's a riot! Not sure if you deserve a medal or some psych meds from driving a cab in Boston!![]()
To keep this from being totally off topic, there was a cool, short lived bass shop on Boylston St. right there that had some very interesting early Moduli and Alembic/Modulus creations. I was waaaaay to broke to afford anything like that back then.
Not Wurlitzer's or Daddy's? I wonder what store you are referring to. Both stores I mentioned were on Mass Ave., next to and across from Berklee. Now the selection sucks; thank goodness for the interwebs.
Thanks for the earworm Bipslapper
Dig the new avatar, but now I've got the following looping in my brainpan:
"Marshall, Will and Holly
On a routine expedition
Met the greatest earthquake ever known
High on the rapids It struck their tiny raft (insert screams here)
And plunged them down a thousand feet below
To the Land of the Lost
To the Land of the Lost
To the Land of the Lost"
Oh, and Kinetic- it really is an awful theme song. Apologies on the ear worm!💀
It's been 10 years that I've been playing this one. Time to join the mob!
- 2003 Q5
- Maple Top, Alder Body
- Aguilar OBP3
- Was Barts but I wanted less dark, so Duncan NYC's
- Was all gold/bronze but I just changed it out to black aluminum, which shaved 11.5oz off the bass (-4oz for the tuners, -5oz for the bridge and -2.5oz for the knobs!) but also relaxed that kinda compressed focused sound that these basses sometimes have.
- It's been pleck'd and I've always come back to EXL's or EXP's. It's really dialed in at this point. Modern, punchy, clear. Great bass.
Nope, long before that. This was back in the day when Wurlitzer's was on the corner of Mass Ave and Newbury St. and Pampalone's was on Mass Ave right next to the T stop. I think the store I'm thinking of was where Jack's Drum Shop ended up. It was gone by the end of 1982. Maybe even earlier. I could be thinking of when I was still in high school.
Wow, that bass looks amazing. Are those Basslines or proper Seymour Duncans? I've never seen basslines with exposed poles. Did you order them direct? Those sound like they might be a good option for my Q6.
Looks amazing.
You're thinking of Petillo Frets. Fabulous little shop, had all kinds of early Spectors, Schecters, Carl Thompsons, Alembic/BecVars, Modulii, Pedullas... I used to go in there all the time in teh late 1970s and drool.
bass lines. ordered from themadape.com. Don't know if they make a 6'er but it's basically made to order, maybe they would do it? they've got the low end of the Barts, with more detail. I did a review here:

To whom it may concern,
I own a "gently preowned" Modulus Q5 that I posted a photo of many months ago along with a few questions, which were never answered or even acknowledged. A month or so later I asked another question which was once again not answered or acknowledged.
On other "club threads" it seems members fall over one another to answer questions posted about their favorite basses. No so, in my experience, here. The next time I have a question about my Q5, I'll write it on my side walk in front of my house in chalk. It will have the same chance of being answered that way as if it was posted here.
Talk about not feeling welcome, I have not encountered that here before on TB.
It's sad on so many levels. No need to reply back since I won't be checking this thread. The member in charge of this "mob" needs to figure out what is more important, "ohhing and ahhhing" over everyone's photos or actually helping TB members with questions pertaining to their Modulus bass.
