Modulus Mob

Any mob members have any Modulus spare parts? Knobs or anything? Please PM me!

Hey Sleepy, do you need these knobs? I misplaced my treble / bass knobs and emailed Modulus a few months ago (before their amnesia worsened), and Joe suggested I deal with Allparts, which I did. I ended up finding the knobs and don't need these.

Coincidentally, I since emailed Allparts and asked if they would still carry Modulus parts in the future and they said "Doubtful". I couldn't attach the picture as a PM, hence this post.

If you want, I can write this on my sidewalk if that's easier for you to read. :D

Bahahahaha! I think I am good. I really need to get some screws for my tuners. They are rusted and when Modulus sent me replacement screws a few years ago they were way too big. My hardware is good but I was considering gold hardware....which I might have found from a Mob member that PM'd me. Thanks though.

I am surprised you didn't ignore my post and then just post a picture of your bass. ;-)

look a few posts up at my twin of your quantum. i used the beveled aluminum and really like them. pricey though. bestbassgear has em.

Speaking of knobs (I think, wasn't really paying attention), I never liked how the stacked knob had a beveled flat top and the regular knobs were dome knobs. My Lull has all beveled flat top knobs, so I sought out a set for my Q5. Opinions? Anyone need dome knobs?

Nice Sadowsky style knobs on your sweet Q5. I'm pretty happy with the flat knobs I found, but yours look cool too.

How do you like those Duncans? I had a set on another Q5 I used to own. They are the Phase II NYC soapbar model for those who were asking. I was not a fan, but I suspect it was the early Pope pre that was not pleasing or not a good match for those pickups.

Funny, I saw those knobs on a piece of medical equipment at my chiropractors office! They are nice though, very light and nicely machined.

The NYC soapbars are good. So many variables, it's sometimes hard to know. One thing I can def hear from the comparison clips I posted above is they are a little more open (less compressed) and quieter than the Barts. They're not radically different though, I'm not sure it's worth the expense to switch from Barts. I got the idea from an review where Invalid Link Removed

Yeah, though I've never played a Mod with barts but I def like the Duncans in my Mod a lot. I get more punch and midrange out of them, so much I think I can get a little distortion if the mids are boosted all the way and such a wide range of tones. Wish I could get a little more edge from them but I'm definitely happy with them overall.

It's been 10 years that I've been playing this one. Time to join the mob!

- 2003 Q5
- Maple Top, Alder Body
- Aguilar OBP3
- Was Barts but I wanted less dark, so Duncan NYC's
- Was all gold/bronze but I just changed it out to black aluminum, which shaved 11.5oz off the bass (-4oz for the tuners, -5oz for the bridge and -2.5oz for the knobs!) but also relaxed that kinda compressed focused sound that these basses sometimes have.
- It's been pleck'd and I've always come back to EXL's or EXP's. It's really dialed in at this point. Modern, punchy, clear. Great bass.

Gorgeous bass! Love the top :hyper:

For those of you that have EMG's in your Q5, which pickups & pre do you have?

Mine currently has Barts in it, but I'm switching over to EMG to see how they sound. It's a little too dark and polite sounding for what I need right now.

I've got a set of 40DC's and a 40P/40J set coming to me. I still haven't decided on which pre I want to get, I'm leaning towards an EMG BQS or Aggie OBP-3. For the time being I'll just use my Bart pre.

Is there a favorite preamp overall? I know there is lots of love for the Bart and Aggie.

I have BQC in my Q6 TBX with an EMG P/J setup and it's OK. I've had a Bart pre in conjunction with EMGs in the past and I actually liked it better. I think the EMG pre is functional but not great sounding.

However, my plan is to go with SGD pickups and an ACG preamp.

Owned for three weeks: a metallic red 2002 Modulus Genesis VJ4, passive with Villex pickups and purchased here on TB. Paint's chipped in a few places (and the tort pick guard is currently at Chandler Guitars; having gloss black/red/black 3-ply and matte black aftermarket guards made), but the bass is an absolute player: fast, clean and vintage-y, with definition and gobs of great J-bass growl. She's not going anywhere else anytime soon -- except on gigs with the Spector to the right. :bassist:

Sign me up and assign me a number, folks!

Ill be posting this in the classifieds as well, but thought I'd throw it up here too...

I took the original EMG DC45's and BQC preamp system out of my Q5 to go the Bart/aggie route... So the EMG's are available FS

PM if you're interested.

On a side note... I've been a Warwick player for 13 years and just picked up my first Modulus, Quantum 5 Sienna Burst... So in love!!! Muh Gawd, this thing is so perfect. Much love for the modulus mob!

Congrats! I think you'll be very happy. Warwick has some great instruments, but I think you'll find the response of the Modulus is a very different world.

Are you sure those are 45s? Usually 5 strings have the DC40 size.
