Modulus Mob

So my 2004 Q5 came in last week. The box and case were damaged. Luckily the bass was not structurally affected but it did need to go to the shop for a new blend pot. The seller paid up and the bass is now home and happy! I feel that I paid a little more for it than the average Q5, but aside from the repair, the bass is like new. Modulus basses might not have the highest resale value but most get played because they are such fantastic basses. I actually feel pretty lucky to have found one in such good condition.

What's the rule of thumb, 70% or so if newer? It just seems like the VJ's and FU's really get beat down as compared to other Modulus models - even if only a couple years old and flawless. Bolt on vs neck through perhaps?

Most Modulus basses are bolt on.. it's rare to see a neck through and they are either related to the Quantum family or one of it's ancestors, not VJ's or FU's, so that's not it.
Having said that, I don't know why the second hand prices of second hand Modulus are so low...not a good thing if your selling, but great if you're hunting one! :p

Thanks sleepy - have you posted yours recently? I don't think I've ever seen it...

With all the negativity aimed at Modulus on TB recently, folks seem to be forgetting one absolute truth: they make some of the best basses in the world.

Well, clearly the argument against that is....well....er....it's....hm. Nope. I got nothing.

With all the stress and confusion over Modulus lately, I thought I'd show them some love... Here's a nice photo of my 2012 Q5: Hand Selected Figured Walnut Top / Alder Body / Satin Finish / 34" Scale 26 Fret Neck / EMG 40DC Pickups / EMG 3-Band EQ

WHAT THE HELL? !!

You live within miles of me? I must play this bass. Man, that is a real beauty. I hear you on the "Modulus Positive Vibrations" lately. I played my Sienna Q5 for both gigs this weekend (Falmouth, Orleans) as a sign of solidarity to Modulus due to all the negative talk and speculation. I love my Q5 and would be sad to see the company go belly up. I have a very good source that says they are OK, but have some issues they need to deal with but should re-surface.

Your neck looks more narrow than my Q5; of course my bass is 35" scale so that may make a difference. It would be fun to hook up some time and share guitars. I have another buddy who plays Modulus and Roscoe (my other favorite) who lives in Sandwich. Maybe we could have a Cape Cod TB GTG?

Edwin - well said!

Pete - you're more than welcome to take her for a spin. I don't think the neck is more narrow than yours... it's just the "artsy" angle I took the photo at.

I'm quite the procrastinator, but I WILL get to a gig soon. Similar to you, all this recent speculation has made me dig my Modulus even more - to the point where my other basses are packed up and put away. I get this feeling that if I keep rockin' the Modulus, everything will turn out ok for them...
