I don't think that it's Flea's bass since it doesn't have a Lane Poor pickup in it. He only started using Basslines pickups around 2002-2003 as drop-D tuned basses.

hehehe, that's mine. just lightening my collection. i had a '93 q5 that was pretty identical in appearance (tiger maple top w/ amber finish). unfortunately that was one of two moduli that had necks that went bad on me. that's the one i wish i still had (with a fixed neck of course).

There's a difference between "only one ever" and "one of a kind" (which is what the ebay ad I saw said). I've seen several other Modulus 8-string basses over the decades...though admittedly not that blue bodied PJ setup.

That 8 string looks like a nightmare!! No truss with all that tension?? wow.. This is not an original 8 string. It is a Modded Mod!!! Yikes... There have be 4x2 8 strings made and even I think 2 12 string (4x3), but no straight 8's that I have ever heard of.

back in the late 80's, one of the music stores across the street from the hollywood GC had the modulus 18-string up for grabs. i remember distinctly not playing it coz when i picked it up off of the guitar stand, it seriously must have weighed 20 pounds. i put it back down figuring, 'what's the point in trying it out if it weighs a ton?' can't remember what the going price was for it.

maybe the early moduli necks had more 'beef' to them so as to maintain stability for beasts like an 8-string.

tempted to try this particular bass out since the seller is located a few miles away from me...

ps - is it me or does the bass body look like it came from a hamer? just seeing the pickup/bridge configuration makes me think 'hamer'...
