I had my Bassstar ground issue resolved. At least I thought I did. Went to play it after it had sat a while and nothing.. Brought it to my brother who is a electronic super whiz..
The person who did my bass nearly ruined the electronics. Wired all wrong, broken wires, poorly soldiered wires..
This is what this so called professional did and how it looked -

This is now done correctly - Oh and no thanks to Bartolini which has crappy rotten poor expletive service.

I really want to remove all the bartolini pickups out of every bass I own and burn them in a gigantic ball of flame on their front lawn then pee on them... BTW - I am really kind of jilted with bartolini

Coincidentally, the one bass with Bart pickups & electronics in my collection is rapidly becoming my favorite...if I wasn't so satisfied with its sound now I'd consider putting Barts in my Modulus!

I don't care for the sound much at all. Too dark and muddy. But it is their HORRIBLE customer service that is way putting me off. Especially since I am a customer service specialist (have been customer oriented in my work for 35 years). I expect and demand service. Not so much to ask for

I know what you mean iriegnome. The barts that came in my turbo were TERRIBLE sounding. Super muddy like you say, and lacked any top end definition. But when swapping them out, I realized that they were not the standard dual coil pickups, but rather the "deep tone" model DCs from bartolini. Basically designed to have much less top end registry and a fat bass and low mid range. Not my idea of a good pickup design at all, unless you're doing reggae.

They definitely used this pickup design in a lot of moddys back in the 90s and maybe even earlier, from what I can tell. Possibly to make them sound less "sterile" for those who didn't like the clarity of the graphite. But I think they sound like poop on a stick.

However I was surprised to find that the Bart DCs in my 2006 Q4 are actually super good sounding! I honestly had a terrible dislike for all things bartolini... Until this bass (the ntmb preamp isn't bad at all either). The DCs in this one are clear and sparkly with nice low end and smooth mids. I don't forsee myself ever changing them out. Though I wasn't a big fan of the Bart jazz pups in my vj4. Not too terrible but no real character or balls at all.

So you might have some of those DEEP TONE ones in your basses. Hopefully that helps clarify a some things for you.

decided to do a little window shopping online whilst watching Thursday night football and some pretty nice q5's are on display. none are mine but thought i'd throw them out here just in case:
