Modulus Mob

I've always been cirious about the Q series of basses. What is the main difference between a same bass made with and without truss rods?

I've read the basses with truss rods have heavier and thicker necks. Is this true?

Thanks
As an owner of both types of quantum 4 (truss and no truss) I can say that there is maybe a subtle difference in feel. Maybe weight too. But it is subtle. The one without the truss is maybe a tiny bit thinner front to back, but the truss rod neck on my '06 is also incredibly comfortable and easy to play.

I'd say the adjustability of the truss neck gives you the advantage of setting it up just right. Either one will be awesome, regardless. So long as the neck is true.

Got a question for you guys about the action/buzz ratio of your vj4's. Mine is phenomenal sounding and I can totally get the action low and smooth. But where I like it set for comfort is still giving me a bit of fretbuzz. Not killing notes or anything. Mainly on the first few frets of the A string and a bit on the first few of the D.

I tried adding relief to the neck with a couple counter clockwise turns and adjusting saddle height but it just seems that the buzz isn't budging much unless I raise the saddle height too much.

Any ideas? Is it maybe a fret issue? Or is there anything else I can try to get rid of this annoying buzz? It kills my ability to sustain a smooth sounding note on these frets with any kind of power to it.

moddy.JPG I am now able to request addition to the Modulus mob!! I got a red flamed maple '91 Q5 from the recently relocated Fly By Night collection out of southern Missouri. It now resides in The Meteor Guitar Gallery, Bentonville, AR. I picked up the Q5 with a "broken" neck - a trip to my luthier and some TLC later, and I have the only bass I've cheated on my Warwick Thumb 5 with in 10 years!!!! I LOVE this Modulus, hate that I'm late to the party and the company is defunct - even after the Planet Bass resurection :( - but I would like to let my Moddy flag fly and join the crowd!!!Link Removed

How was the neck broken?

How is the fret wear? Maybe it's time for some work?

Why do some Modulus players call their instruments "Moddy's"?
Am I missing a secret handshake or, perhaps, a sweetened, brightly colored beverage or something?

"Fendy"
"Lakie"
"Ricky"
"Yammie"?

Nope.

It's not that long of a name such that an abbreviation saves time.
It just seems kind of...well, like you are discussing your favorite bedtime wear or stuffed animal or something.
IMHO

I've definitely heard Yammie and Ricky. :)
