Modulus Mob

it should also be noted that the FU is BY FAR the most popular modulus bass...due to FLEA.

I also see the options as not being too expensive but at this point they definitely would rather just sell some regular production basses. I wish them well and this is all still VERY new so I imagine things will work and things wont work and they will get it sorted out. I am particularly curious and hopeful about the statement that they are sinking money into R&D even if we havent seen the fruits of that labor just yet.

The black Bassstar fretless above weighed like a boat anchor - but mostly due to the Kahler Whammy Bridge.
Rich Hoeg (formerly of Modulus and the builder of Bob Weir'd Blue Lightning Bolt and HoegCaster Strats) helped me obtain a NOS body and new bridge and put together a much easier to play Fretless. (the orange rebuild - note the SF Giants Color Scheme! ; - )
Instead of 12 lbs its more like 9 and those 3 lbs make a lot of difference.

I have no idea how much the neck itself weighs or if it's hollow (like the one in my Q5) but it's crazy thin and wonderful to play. About the most fun I have playing bass.

FYI, the spalted Q4 ('96) at the Bass Place is on sale for $1895. No affiliation.

Oooo... Sexxxy....

The only reason I'm even looking at it is because it has the pre truss rod neck and those are nice. But NO! there's no way I'm even considering buying it, I have that exact bass with the truss rod and a different finish that's more my style. Though that burl top is quite nice.

Love the Girl Code nod there.. Anyway, I am not sure... But I will report back. I know that my guitar player has 5 Modulus' guitars. Larry Brooks from Fender Custom Shop does his Modulus'. He has repaired all the dings on his necks. Not sure what he uses either, but man they come out fantastic.. I know on my lesser expensive basses, I use Super Glue Gel. A drop fills the ding. A ultra fine file to knock down the height and 0000 steel wool or 2500 grit sand paper to smooth it out. You can still see the ding, but you can't feel it

I let my 6 string go. I didn't want to sell it, but I just couldn't play it. Neck was huge!! I have another 6 string, but it is a prototype, but I really loved the EMG sound and tone on my 6'er. I would probably get another one if it presented itself to me. Maybe a 1980's model.. I love me some vintage Mod's

Agree, I have a Roscoe 6 string SKB that is incredible but not a bass I play often. I think of selling it, but can' t pull the trigger. If I didn't own it (got it really cheap), I would buy this Moddy Bubinga 6er just because. It shouldn't last too long on the classifieds for that price.

Yea, a q6 at with nice top wood and good condition like that should fly. But I've realized I'm honestly a 4-string purist, no matter how I try to get into more strings. I just can't get used to the neck width, string spacing and b-string feel. Even with the q5 I owned, I thought the b-string still felt too floppy and impractical to actually use, even though it was a modulus. Loved the A, D, and G strings though, and always gravitated towards them when I played it. But just the flabby notes below the low E left me clammy, and I'm so used to 4-bangers that I don't need the positioning advantage that a 5er/6er affords. This leads me to believe that no 5er or 6er will ever be for me. But I've been wrong before :cautious:...

Yes we are enablers, I didn't need to own more than one bass before I joined this site. And I certainly didn't need more than one modulus before I joined this thread.

Now I'm the proud owner of 6 basses, 4 of which are moddys. Not to mention the upgrades I've put in most of my basses. I also own 3 amps now, as well as a stack of custom cabs. My G.A.S. List is now more about amps than anything else, as well as a couple of pedals. But that's just to explore all the sound options available. I've still not tried most of the major amps out there.

Also, one thing I've become very obsessed with since reading TB forums is setting my basses up perfectly. I mean perfect. I want the lowest action possible without any buzz unless I dig in hard to get a little sizzle out of my notes. Still trying to figure out the nature of the modulus "relief adjustment bar". It's kind of hard to notice how it responds with each adjustment. Still working on getting each of my moddys exactly where I want them so I can just leave them and never think about it again.
