Modulus Mob

Since I know there are other Chicago area people in this group, and I jus noticed that signatures and such don’t show up when looking at TB on your iPhone, here’s an official heads up

US: Midwest - April 15th, 2018 Chicago Spring GTG!

I’ll be there, as will some other cool local TB’ers. Last year was a great time!

So........... I've kinda been wanting a fretted Quantum as a companion to my fretless Q6TBX for a while, but not in any hurry at all. Had a few "gotta haves" -

1) I like wide spaced 5 strings, so I'm looking for either a Q5W or a Q6 to convert (I converted my TBX, love it, and completely reversible).
2) the TBX has a cocobolo top, so I wanted something similar, yet different.
3) I don't like fingerboard dots, much prefer blank. Wood or phenolic, I'm not picky about that.
4) I've got a really excellent 5 string with EMGs, so Bartolinis, please.
5) A nice price.

This one checked all the boxes. Trigger pulled.

Pictures and description on Reverb indicate to me this one's been loved a lot, but in the best way - grimy fingerboard, some apparent wear on the pickups, evidence of sweat on some of the hardware, but practically no dings, finish damage, etc. Basses that are 10+ years old and still pristine always make me suspicious - why's it unplayed?

It's coming from Canada. Cross my fingers and hope for a REALLY Good Friday?;)

Story time:

Last night I had a pre-production meeting with the producer of a recording project I'll be involved with. He wanted to hear some of my basses so we could narrow down which instruments to bring into the studio, so as not to waste time/money once the clock starts ticking. This producer is also a bass player (nudge nudge wink wink) so he spent a little time playing my instruments as well as listening to me play them.

Most of the project requires fretless and this guy has heard me play my Rob Allen MB-2 on previous sessions we've done together, so that was settled pretty quickly. For the fretted numbers he seemed to be gravitating towards my Lakland Skyline 55-02D...and almost seemed to have settled on that instrument as the "finalist" ...when he asked if I had anything else worth hearing.

I pulled out my Modulus Quantum-6 TBX.

It was like bringing a gun to a knife fight.

He almost couldn't believe what he was hearing. He would play it for a few minutes, then sort of stare at his hands and the bass and mutter something like "How can that be?!?!" and then ask me to play it while he listened from across the room. He'd shake his head with this semi-amazed expression on his face, then try playing some other stuff, same routine all over again. He just couldn't get his head wrapped around the idea of a bass sounding so uniform, so consistent, so clear, and so huge/thik/phat/bootylicious.

Needless to say, it made the cut. He only offered to buy it off me three times. :)
