Modulus Mob

I’m always tempted by the recessed ones, but too chicken to do it.

They do look totally badass, much more attractive than straplocks that sit proud of the body. But A) if you lose your strap with the straplocks on it, or if your straplocks break, well, you're SOL; and B) yes, be very chicken: I had mine installed by one of the most respected pros in NYC and he still wound up drilling slightly off-center/out-of-round, and cracking some of the finish!

But other than that... ;)

Walker & Williams XSL Extra Long Deep Barrel Black Strap Locks
For Thick Straps. On all regular players. Love 'em.
Don't even have to look or feel around. They slip right in.
With the exception of Ernie Balls on the SBMM
and oem buttons left on the vintage instruments.

so practice report:
The modulus is a joy to play. I have quickly gotten used to the tighter string spacing and longer scale length than my other basses.
its a bit heavy, trying to figure out how to cut down on some weight. The black knobs I got as replacements are very heavy. does anyone make a lightweight knob? also the brass bridge added weight, but I think it makes the bass sound better so that will stay
this bass BOOMS. It took me a while to get the tone to an acceptable level using my bandleaders ancient kickback hartke amp with a bunch of terribly scractchy and non functional pots. I may have to start bringing my rig to rehersal, but all in all super excited to be a modulus player. The bass is probably way above my skill set now butttt a dreams a dream!
thanks for listening

Well if you want to go down the weight saving rabbit hole...
- the aluminum bridge is about 6oz lighter
- the gotoh resolite tuners are about 5oz lighter (hipshot ultralites are slightly heavier)
- you could get hipshot “o ring”, aluminum “sadowsky” knobs or the plastic slide on omes like on a Lakland (or the aguilar amps) to save a few more ounces...
- you could run the preamp at 9v to save the weight of a second battery
- get a better/wider strap. I use the sadowsky neoprene ones on all my basses, very happy with them.

As said Fred ;), lightweight tuners for sure. On paper it's 5 or 6 ounces, but since you're taking that weight off the very end of the neck the leverage will make it feel like you took off a pound or more.

I am a terrible TB’er (and group member)- just realized I never posted pics of my new to me Q5 (that I’ve had for about 6 weeks). 2004 Q5, right around 9lbs, bart pickups and pre (with a p/p active/passive and mid freq). Might get it stained at some point, but no rush...

To stain such an exquisite piece would be a great shame! That is one if the most beautiful Modulus basses I have ever seen.
