Modulus Mob

I looked at Drewphishes bass for sale and I also have a 1990 Q6, and what I don't get is why do the TBX and other neck through Moduluses seem to have the pickups much closer to the bridge and the bolt ons generally have the pickups where I think they should be, closer to the neck? After all, we're bass players, so we need some bass!

Would it have something to do with weakening the neck (by molding in a space for the pu's) that close to the edge of the body? Anyway, I have two sweet spot turbos and to my taste there is plenty of low-end.

here's a side-by-side pic of my tbx and q5 body. tried to get the pic with the bridges lined up. the bridge pickups are almost equidistant to the bridge (27mm on the q5 and 23mm on the tbx) and the distance between the neck and bridge p/u's are 36mm. in my case, pickup placement seems to be pretty much the same.

i know there are quite a few customs floating around so (if not too busy) maybe @GeoffGould can comment on pickup placement and the decisions behind them?

I think you’re right- it’s optical illusion since there isn’t the neck extension into the body with the Modulus logo...

when i joined here about 3 years ago, i believe it was @DeathDancer that was handing out numbers.

noticed that he's been away from here for a couple of years.

maybe time to elect a new mobber/mobster to hand out numbers?

I don’t have photoshop skills, but put a Q5 in his hands and we’ve got our man...

For those of you who use the bqc system with emgs how do you have it wired? Like example 3 or 4?

Invalid Link Removed
#3 is a bqc (4 knob) system (volume/balance/stacked bass-treble/stacked mids)
#4 is a bqs (5 knob) system (volume/balance/bass/treble/stacked mids)

the bqc can also be wired vol/vol/stacked bass-treble/stacked mids.

Hmmm someone told me in the newer models the control cavity is so big you need the 6 inch wires
I was told this by Tony at Planet Bass/Modulus, and it makes sense to me.

‘We custom order EMG preamps with 6" wire harness leads.”

The newer BQCs have everything on a pot mounted circuit board, and it’s a long one, so longer leads help get around it. I thought I posted this stuff here, but a TB search does not show it, so I will do so now and do my pennance (practicing today).

Not my bass, btw (I wish)- Tony sent me this pic.
