OhMy buddy was out in California for NAMM and while there went to some (unrelated) used guitar swapmeet at the Orange County Fair Grounds.
He wound up buying this gorgeous ancient Modulus Quantum-5

In fairness, he said the electronics need a lot of work. But still...
Looks to be mid-1980s; certainly pre-1989. I asked him about the serial # but he hasn't written back yet.
I’ve got a set of the bart pickups at home that I pulled out of my Q5, I’ll take a pic of the back when I get home later.Hi all, I’ve got a 2000 Modulus Q5, plays great, and it’s seen lots of gigs. It started with EMG DC’s in it, BQC controls, and I put CS at the bridge for a while. I replaced both with the DCx’s some years ago. But I like to tinker and I’ve been thinking about putting in some Bartolinis for something different. Tone wise I do generally prefer warmer but not mud. With the EMGs I usually do roll off some highs at the very least.
I’ve read through this thread and I think the stock Barts back in the day were the 45MC, which they call original bass now, available in the M4 size that should fit right in. Is that right? As for preamp, I believe the stock version with mid control is the NTMB, but there seems to be several varieties. At bestbassgear I see the NTMB+F, the NTMB+FL, and some with 918 in there which I think is Bart’s newer smaller modules but I’m not sure. And I’m not sure if the previews harness is affixed to a substrate in the two configurations — in-line and more squared, neither of which would seem to line up with the knob routing in the q5. If not affixed, I’m sure I could get the 4 pots in the right place. I would prefer vol and blend rather than separate volume for neck and bridge although I’m comfortable with either. I know there are many here who’ve swapped pups like this so I’m just looking for some basic guidance. Are the 45MC the right pups? Would either of the prewired harnesses work better? Which preamp is the right one? Or would I be better off getting the Aggie OBP-3 instead? Or even leave the EMG electronics but put in the Bart pups? I saw a post from Geoff that they used to do that at some point. And finally, is this as easy a swap as I think it should be? Any particular difficulties I should be aware of before taking out the emg guts? Thanks for any help!
Whew! Had to sit down and catch my breath. Having an OMG moment...My buddy was out in California for NAMM and while there went to some (unrelated) used guitar swapmeet at the Orange County Fair Grounds.

Hmmm, I’d swap you the DC’s but I guess that wouldn’t work sizewise for either of us. Oh well....I'm looking for the opposite, EMGs to replace my Bart's, but can't seem to find EMG pu's that would be a drop-in replacement, so I'm leaning towards nordstrands. Not to sway you, you sound like you've done better research than I.
there's no serial number. Certainly can't be much wrong with the electronics; it looks like a pretty simple setup. I hope it's a legit sale. Killer price. My buddy was out in California for NAMM and while there went to some (unrelated) used guitar swapmeet at the Orange County Fair Grounds.
