Modulus Mob

Thanks for posting! That's really strange. I wonder if it's because I ordered the import ultralights instead of the US models? I do have an older one. Maybe the pre truss headstocks are different.
I was wondering that myself (headstock size)... I don’t have a 6er any more, so I couldn’t tell you...

I just did some measurements and compared my Modulus Q6 with the top of the line Ibanez SR basses in dimensions and here's what I discovered...

Width at Nut
Ibanez: 54mm, Modulus: 50.8mm

Width at 24th Fret
Ibanez: 83mm, Modulus: 82.55mm

Thickness at 1st Fret
Ibanez: 19.5mm, Modulus: 15.87mm

Thickness at 12th Fret
Ibanez: 23mm, Modulus: 19.05mm

I had always thought that the Ibanez Soundgear series had the slimmest and thinnest necks out there, but Modulus beats them by a good bit!

The Q6 is even thinner in some areas than the Ibanez Gerald Veasley bass - which is incredibly slimmed down.

Guess that explains why the Q6 is the best feeling neck I've played on a six string yet.

That's great news, thanks!

The only thing I don't like about the bridge is that there is a screw that locks the saddle in place that has to be loosened in order to set the intonation. So I have to actually detune the string and remove it from the saddle to access the screw (you can actually see it sitting below the string and just to the right in the photo above). It makes setting intonation very difficult. Do you happen to know if this has been changed in the later models?

It has not changed, though you do not actually have to lock that screw down. I have this bridge on most of my of basses, rarely lock the screw, and have not had issues with saddle migration. It's held in place by string tension. It could move with string change but then you should be readjusting at that point anyway.

Is there a lot of neck dive with the 6s? It doesn’t seem like a problem with the 5s

In general, I don't have any problem with neck dive with my Q6, but my '83, un-named and un-serial numbered 6 string neck through does have some weird issues, one of which is neck dive (partially from the extra big headstock and partially from the angle the neck is attached to the body.

My Q6 is the same as yours, with big peghead, which we eventually changed. It follows what I call the 'silk shirt rule.' If you're wearing a silk shirt, and are using a slippery strap, you'll get some neck dive. But, I never notice it, as I don't wear silk shirts, and I have a comfort strap on!

I'm wondering if attaching a strap button in a different place might help. I find that my left wrist starts feeling tweaked by the angle that the neck sits. Sure is an interesting bass! I've put Alembic pickups in and moved the neck pickup right up to the fingerboard, like yours. Waiting on a third pickup to drop in there.

I'm curious, what strings are you using on yours?

I wonder: Do players find that the hollow bodied q6s balance as well as their solid bodied counterparts?

While I have never owned one, I've played a few and didn't notice any difference. As long as the upper horn goes out far enough, there shouldn't be any balance issues.

This was the same question I had, I love these Oteil Burbridge models, but I was afraid they'd not balance as well with that F hole. Good point about the horn!

I may get a chance to try one soon.

Hi, folks!
I have a Modulus Quantum 6 made in 1999 year with unworking truss rod. Do you know where I can repair the neck or am I need to send message to Modulus directly?
Thankx a lot!
My luthier here in the upper Midwest is an expert with Modulus basses. He has worked on many dozens of them. Or, you can hit up Modulus which is in Minneapolis. PM me if you would like my luthier's phone number to even just talk to him.
