Modulus Mob

You're complaining because you didn't get an answer in four hours? Are you just sitting on the forum waiting for a response or something? :ninja: Aside from that the first post has something to the effect of 'PM me for your number' to join the club.

Sorry to come across the wrong way, my bad. Didn't mean to sound like a winer, if so I apologize.
Love the Modulus basses and whole company. I actually inquired months prior to any club and never heard back (in different thread).
Proud to own the bass and just wanted to connect.
Cheers.

My 2001 Modulus Q5 in a Matte Black finish. This best matte finish I have ever seen. Apologies for the lower picture quality, but I figured an iPhone image was better than no image.

Great Bass, love the color and the finish. Custom order?

Yes, it was a custom order from my local music shop Absolute Music. I am the third and final owner after 8 years. I had been trying to get a Q5 since about 2002, but nothing ever panned out. This turned out to unexpectedly be exactly what I was looking for without even realizing it! Tim from absolute ordered it for original guy --> then Tim bought it from original guy --> then Tim realized he had 3 Modulus Q5's along with 9 other basses and finally gave in to my envelope of cash :)

Touch Down and the extra point! I know one thing, I will never sell my Modulus. Love everything about it. I was lucky to buy mine originally from Matt at Matt's Music in Boston. Cheers

I love the finish and maple quality of my Modulus Q5

How did I miss this thread? :D

Here's my purple sparkle '97 Flea that I got on here about a month ago.

It's the easiest playing bass I've ever touched, and the slap tone is to die for. I love it!

I've never seen an ugly Modulus. :bassist: Beautiful basses!

It's ugly, and it has been through a lot, but I love it!
Fender body, used to be a standard MIM jazz, but now the body is the only thing original. Hipshot bridge, Bartolinis, Schaller machines, and it is back to standard wiring after many various setups (including series hardwired to the jack, and aguilar). The neck is a prototype Genesis neck made of Bloodwood, with a Granidillo fingerboard. We made a few odd balls; this one, one of Jarrah, one of Madrone, and I think we did some obscenely soft wood like cedar, but don't quote me on that. Cedar, alder, and maple had all been used in the MT5, but not the GVJ. In the end, I think most of the Genesis necks ended up being made of maple. I think the Genesis concept made really killer guitar necks, and I think the market is unfortunate not to have many of them floating around, but I usually didn't like the basses. This was a lucky score on my part. I bugged the CEO for years, and finally he sold it to me. The finish was barely worked, just cleaned up at the neck pocket. Never been an issue, IMO. The really ugly headstock sanding is because I used the Hipshot ultralites that were originally mounted there for my prototype, and I got a deal while working at Hamer for the Schallers. But the Schallers require a smaller bore, and while achieving that was simple, Hamer didn't have the same paint that Modulus did, and that means no UV inhibitors.

Anywho, I absolutely love this bass! Partly for the uniqueness, mostly because it sounds and plays great.

Hahahahaha, I know the paint color doesn't matter, but there was a pink flake finish Flea in the sound room at Modulus that had tone to die for. Personally, I never could dig the color, but my god the sounds!

Where was Matt's Music? I lived in Boston for 15 years and don't recognize the name!

There's something really beautiful about that headstock...all business, a tool that gets used. I love it.

Can you speak more about how much graphite is actually in a Genesis neck? I.e., what's the shape of the carbon member? Is it just that stripe visible on the center of the headstock (and presumably running the length of the neck), or does its shape change elsewhere in the neck?

My bad, not really Boston, but Weymouth:

Matt's Music Center
35 Pleasant St
Weymouth, MA 02190

I guess they are still in business, but keep lower profile. I am on the Cape and we don't have a decent selection of any brand other than Fender.:scowl:

Sure, I was going to let the Modulus website do most of my talking, but they have changed the website a little, and some of that info is either somewhere I don't know it is, or it's not there currently.

The carbon fiber T-section runs the entire length of the neck, and they're all pretty impressive pieces that require pretty tricky routing in the neck blank. The main differences are in the heels of the necks, but from there to the tip of the headstock, they're all quite similar. The main part of it, under the fingerboard, is the full width of the neck, and about .1" thick. It has a U shaped channel that carries the truss rod. This is a carbon channel, not a gap in the carbon that allows for the rod. You can see the T-section from the sides of the neck, between the fingerboard and the main neck wood. There are many pieces in a "kit" that is cut out of unidirectional pre-preg, and those are placed into a pre-mold, and stuck all together and then quickly placed in an already heated aluminum mold that is placed in a press and cooked until done. There are a number of the parts that run the full length, and a few others that are used to bulk up areas like the heel block, and the headstock stripe. There is little seen by then end of the neck process, and I know they've started to do the GVJs a little differently now, but every bit as good as the old ones. They just cut out some extra work, which is good on so many levels. What you still get is a full surface under the fingerboard that is carbon fiber. There is no longer a large carbon block in the heel, nor the black stripe in the headstock. The face of the headstock is now capped with carbon, unlike the old generation having a carbon cap on the back. All of this just saves time, money, and reduces the possibility of failure due to less machining, and a much less complicated carbon part.

I actually have a 1997 Modulus Flea 4 strings blue flake with LP/ aguilar, badass II bridge, matching headstock
and there's actually a 2001 Modulus Quantum 5 barts preamp + pups on the way to me, can't wait :hyper: thanks Joebone
