Modulus Mob

Let's see yer bass!!!

Here it is. It's the same one that Jason Raso did the video with. And he doesn't want to give it back.

Here's an update on where I am with the EMG thing. I have the DCXs in and the BQC. BQC with the sweepable mids is great. I usually leave it flat though.

Neck DCX sounds fantastic to me. Nice and beefy, lots of character. The bridge pickup on the other hand sounds like garbàge. Super super super thin. I have experimented with pickup height. EMG thinks it could be defective, so I'm looking in to that. I think I might end up having to go CSX in the bridge to get a more mid focused articulate sound in the bridge like I formerly had with the Barts.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I agree with EMG about it possibly being defective. Both my DCX’s sound great, also with the BQC.

I see a lot of stuff on the inter webs about EMGs “like to be close to the string.”

since lowering it, I’ve already gotten much better results....

Is there a standard “starting point” for pickup height?

Not withstanding pending quoted quantized measurements, not so low
as a harder playing style might cause the strings to contact the pickup.
As much is taken for granted.

There are a few aspects of pickup height worth mentioning.
  1. In a two pickup bass, adjusting the relative heights of the pickups evens out the volume
  2. Sometimes, if a pickup is too close, individual string volume can be uneven. Moving it away from the strings will help balance the outputss.
  3. I personally like moving the neck pickup away from the strings as much as is practical, as the tone is sweeter.
  4. It's not much of an issue with EMG's, but some pickups have such strong magnets, that they can throw off intonation if they are too close to the strings.

Here’s some screenshots of the PDF of the modulus manual I found on the Internet. It should help with your set up.

Is it just me or does it appear that Dave's Quantum 5 has a maple fingerboard (especially when they zoom in and he's doing some tapping);

iirc, someone mentioned (or it was in an article) that it's actually a white phenolic fretboard. geoff could probably comment more on this subject much better. so (i assume) instead of a black tint, the fingerboard is 'finished' in white.

to be sure, the next time i'm hangin' with dave and the boys at (insert festival name here), i'll ask 'em! o_O :bag: :roflmao:
