Modulus Mob

I have an 89 q5 and I love the low b (and all 4 other strings). I posted here about it awhile back now. Mine is a fretless and I've got TI jazz flats on it. So YMMV. I still think it has plenty high end sparkle even with this setup. But that may just be my ears.
it's just i, like many others, have a love-hate relationship with a 34" scale 'b'-string.

i remember about thirty years ago doing a rinky-dink show where i borrowed a peavey tl-5 and that 'b'-string sounded and felt like a wet noodle.

then, you have ibanez that seemed to have figured out some kind of witchcraft coz many of their basses i've tried have very decent 'b'-strings.

my favorite all-time 34" scale 'b'-string was my '85 steinberger xl-2a with nashville tuning (b,e,a,d). iirc, ghs was the only game in town that made double-ball end bass strings for extended range basses.

My ‘82/83 Modulus Bassstar Neck thru 5 string 34” scale. The B (and all the strings) is nice tight, clean, precise

Hey guys. Anyone know how to get a hold of Tony Ciperman or Joe Perman to order a new revolite? Or are they not taking orders right now? I left a couple of messages and emails at Planet Bass already. Thanks in advance for any help!

Not surprised you haven't gotten a quick response when emailing; that seems par for the course. [email protected] goes directly to Tony, but he's never been especially prompt in responding to emails.

Joe Perman is on Facebook as Joe Perman but I've never had a direct, working email address for him.

I had some very reasonable back and forth messages with Tony about a month ago. Very nice guy. Sure, responses aren’t super quick since it’s a small shop, but it wasn’t unreasonable - and all I was looking to do was purchase a pickup.

I agree he is very nice and personable! I spoke with him maybe 3 years ago about a possible build. At the time I was hung up on medium and short scales and kind of tabled things to see if he might be inclined to develop a new mold…fast forward a few years and I’ve given up on medium and short scales (not because they aren’t awesome…they are…I just got tired of having to hope all my favorite builders would some day make the Goldilocks scale!). I’m trying to get that build back on track but no luck yet. I’ll admit my paranoid self is worried I’ve been blacklisted…but then reason kicks in and I remember I’m not nearly important or memorable enough for that!

Alembic will do whatever scale you want. (Modulus connection: Alembic sported the first of Geoff's necks).

I don’t make alembic money , lol
Yeah, I get that. I have had a couple, but I doubt I'll afford one again. The first one, a 1978 Series I, I got for $750. But that was decades ago. Weirdly enough, I sold them because one was a long scale, the other a short, and I had decided that what I needed was a medium!

I kinda got lucky when getting hold of Tony a few months ago. We had a little back and forth when I was looking to do a custom tbx5. Would have gone through with it but he was a bit taken aback when I requested a bridge with 17.5” string spacing on the “wide “ neck (3” at the 24th fret). Mr. Gould has his GGI5’s set up like this and I prefer this exact setup. Oh well, guess it’s all about hunting for Gould-era tbx5’s…
