That's lovely! How does it play?
I've got one that has similarities. I swapped out the pickups, though.

)where is this one? If you are in its presence, smell it!
I think we had it at NAMM. The top and back are cedar, like from a closet!
It's funny I've been in touch with Bartolini about these pickups recently. They are willing to remake them.
I'm also curious about the Alembic ones. I sent them the specs, and they made a few while I was still at Modulus, but they look like pickups they began to use for themselves!
If it had a black pick guard I'd take it.

I still have the 3 Bartolini pickups and chassis from the Quantum bass, the pickups were wound to Geoff's specifications. The neck pickup is labeled GGH VP, middle-pickup is GGT, and the bridge GGC. I have absolutely no need for these, they have been in storage since 1988. If anyone has one of the 80's neck-through Quantum five-strings with a wonky pickup and has a use for them let me know.
they are by all measures a totally unserious businessHey guys, just checking in…
still no answer from Tony at Planet Bass…I’ve been calling a few times a week as well for weeks…nuthin.
anybody know what’s up? Is modulus / Mr Ciperman ok?
trying to become a card carrying member of the Mod Mob!![]()
on my bass with 3 pickups, the neck is a humcancelleds single coil, middle is spit coil, and bridge is humbucker. I might want to borrow them briefly before you sell them, if you choose.Geoff... not sure if you remember but I had Alembic make pickups for my, brand new at the time, Quantum Five-string back in 1988. I bought it at a shop in New Jersey that I can't remember the name of. Before I completed the purchase we called you because I didn't care for the Bartolini pickups in it and wanted to see if I could get Alembic pickups and electronics. You told us that you had sent pickup molds/specs to Alembic since you were thinking of having them make you some pickups. Next we called Alembic and they confirmed that they could make me custom pickups to use with their electronics. They have been in the bass ever since. I have more than enough basses already but an option to order Alembic electronics for a G.Gould bass would be great. I kind of like the EMGs in my GGi5 but find the high end annoyingly brittle, bass currently is strung with Pyramid Gold Flats to tame the character of the highs and sounds really good.

Geoff...do you remember what the labels on each of those pickups stands for?
should be same sizeDo you think they are the same size as the ones from my 6 string, given that it's a very narrow 6?

by all accounts looks to be a quality product at least.
My impression is that these days Modulus still builds a quality product, they just don't treat building quality products as a full-time day job.
