Modulus Values: Any Experts?

I have a Modulus Q5 that I only bought because a friend was broke. I've had it for a while now (like a year), and started looking around to sell it recently. I don't really need the money (I know, that makes me a minority among musicians, just in the right place at the right time, thank God). What seems to have happened is values have dropped a little lately, i'm guessing due to modulus going under. I would think in the long run values would go up because of that. So my question is this: Sell now, or wait until/if values go up? again, I don't need the money.

thanks!

There's really no telling. The times when TB and ebay have become saturated with them they tend to sell in the 1k-1.8k range

The values of fleas have definitely gone up since Modulus going under, but you tend to see Q's being sold more.

There's no real telling but I think Modulus has an interesting cult following that down the line they will still be sought after

Not particularly sought after now, and the numbers are pretty big. I don't think you will be "onto" anything.

Wals are a great example because they a) were desirable before production issues, b) are relatively few in number, and c) have a number of very high profile players were used them during landmark performances.

Quantums don't have any of those.

I would expect they'll stay relatively consistent, despite being out of business. Probably not much uptick, unless you have something particularly optioned/unusual/hard to find.

I would say to hold onto it now. There values have not really shot up yet. They might or might not. However, if you really don't need the money I would ride it out a little longer. When supply goes down that will be the time to sell. They are still to fresh out of business, so supply is still reasonable.
I personally have two Modulus (Moduli, possibly?) I love them and don't intend to sell them. However, If I were looking to sell I would wait as well.

Here's a possible comparison (a little apples to oranges but bear with me). When Fender Roscoe Becks were in production, they were appreciated as fine basses but were readily available. Once they were discontinued, you could still find them used for a decent price. Now that we are about 5 years past final production, they fetch a pretty healthy price, especially if clean.

Quantums might fall into a similar category down the road. They are really fine basses and have a very well balanced sound. I'm very happy with mine. I don't see parting with it.

I'm guessing you mean Quantums don't have any of c) high profile players? Because they certainly had a) and b) going on. Or maybe I'm thinking Modulus in general and you specifically mean the Quantum model as differentiated from all teh Quantum variants?

But in any case, you do bring up an interesting point: Why did such an excellent have so few high profile players? When I think of Modulus artists I can name
- Flea
- Dave Schools
- Mike Gordon
- Oteil Burbridge
- Fernando Saunders (oh geez, I'm already pushing the definition of "high profile")
- uh...Kermit Driscol
- Andy West (I think? Maybe I'm wrong about that...)
- Phillip Bynoe
- uh... me? Seriously, I'm out.

If you decide to sell the Modulus Quantum 5, I might be interested. I am looking for a late 90's model. I currently have a '96 Q6, and I am looking to start a Modulus family! Please contact me if you decide to put it on the market. Thank you.
