Modulus VJ4

i saw one of these for sale near me yesterday for what seemed to be a really good price. i definitly don't need it and don't need to spend the money either but i was wondering what the going rate is for these.

it's lake placid blue with a Gotoh bridge, barts and passive electronics. there are one or two dings in the finish/clear coat on the headstock and it looks like it has allowed a bit of air under there since the finish on that area is slightly cloudy. other than that it seemed to be in good shape

it was priced well under a grand. so lets hear it, what is the going rate for these

Seems a fair price to me. Any decent condition Modulus under a grand is like a trio of angels coming down from the heavens and handing it to you, IMO

but my gas has now been permenatly cured!

VJ4 in exc cond. goes for about 1200 street IME. They sound great but can be very heavy. I had one yrs ago that weighed 12 lbs......I used it as a boat anchor, LOL.

yeah i don't have any pics. i just wasn't sure how much the finish issue on the head would devalue it. the thing has been there for a while now. i'm tempted to go and try to talk them down.

I say do it! Go and talk them down a bit...but if they don't budge then I'd buy it anyways. I would be nice to at least get it down to the price of the bass without tax. I love the VJ series and I'm a big fan of Bart J's so I'd do it!

Yeah you can easy flip that for 300-400 depending on the condish if you don't like it.
They are some fine, fine basses!

this is a no loose situation, also the price could be low due to the damage to the finish? but no one would be looking at that they sound bad ass! go for it!

I think that's a little much, but a) it's a shop selling it and b) it's in a suburb of NYC, so they'll probably ask more.

That being said, it looks to be in great shape, has a truss rod and the OHSC, and they have it listed on the 'bay with "best offer", so you can always try and haggle.

I seem to think $1200 is a fair TB price for one of these, but I don't have any scientific evidence for it.

We checked it out yesterday and it was great, but the saddles are bottomed out. How does that happen with a neck that's supposed to be environment proof? Can you shim a modulus neck just like a Fender?

I wanna encourage my friend to get it because he often leaves his basses with me and they sorta become mine. I've had his Rickenbacker in my apartment for almost a year.

Not 100% sure that's the stock bridge for those, but then again Modulus used all kinds of bridges on their basses... Maybe a lower profile bridge?

I would guess you can shim any bolt-on neck, but I am NOT experienced in that, so don't quote me on it.
