i've heard that these are perfect if you want to make your own sounds and strange noises etc.

but how musical actually are they?

i'm really interested in making my own sounds and tones when it comes to bass, but only to a certain extent, i still want to be able to hold a groove with the effects still in place.

so if anyone has one of these, what musical sounds can you get out of them. and also, do they work like standard pedals. i know theres a lot of sockets to plug into but does it still work with standard input and output plugged in without all the others.

So, are you asking about ring modulators in general (there are lots of them out there), or the Moog in specific? Yes, the Moog works like a standard pedal with a normal in and out. If you have questions about ring modulators, try a search first- we've had some pretty good discussions recently.

I can tell you right now that "what musical sounds can you get out of them" cannot be answered in words, IMO, ring mods are far too eccentric and variable for simple words.

+1 on the eccentric sounds.

Electro Harmonix's web site has some awesome sound clips of the Frequency Analyzer, which is their ring modulator. After listening to the clips, I bought one. The sounds can be as musical or non-musical as you want them to be (especially if you're a knob-tweaker (innuendo intended ))
