Moog's new "Freak Box"

Moog stuff too expensive? I think not. These are the best quality electronic instruments you can buy. Theyre made all by hand, these are crappy mass produced digital synths and effects/synth modules. Theyre a small company, many people dont realize that. Furthermore, moogerfoogers arent just effects pedals, theyre real analog synth modules. While they were made for the guitarist to use, theyre real beauty is using them in a modular sense with your synths. Lets take the freqbox, say you have a 2 oscillator moog, and you want another VCO, you have 2 options, buy another moog and CV it together, or buy a freqbox, cv it and bam you got a 3 VCO synth, same applies to the rest of the foogers. Make a purchase from moog and youre buying an amazingly made product that can last you your entire life.

lowpass filter picks up radio signals? really? Ive never had any bass gear do that, except for the time my drummer in highschool lived like less then 1000 feet from a very, very large local radio stations broadcasting tower. You could hear it in the background on the phones in his house. I have seen guitar players rigs do it. Man, thats a bummer, i was just considering gettingmyself one of those.

You probably won't have the same problem where you live, but if I can't record with it at home and I can't count on it not doing the same thing on a gig then it's an expensive paperweight to me. It had great dynamic response though. Also I would much rather have had an attack and decay knob for the envelope response than the blend and resonance knobs they give you. The slow/fast switch just didn't do it for me.

I know a lot about VCO's, and I know some of them can be weak, farty, or nasal sounding. I'm not saying the Moog is any of those things (I haven't heard it in person), but I would not rely on any assumption about VCO's being inherently unlimited or awesome sounding.

O.K., I listened to the demo on the Moog site and got real excited about making some pretty cool sounds with my bass. However I just watched the Moog demo of this on the gearwire website and have changed my mind. It is very uncontrolable noise. Even the guy demoing the pedal couldnt get a decent sound out of this thing. Unless you want some really weird distortion. The demo on the site seems like it had to be edited pretty good for them to get the sounds they used. It did not look easy.

So, so, so, so NOT impressed. This pedal is something I would expect from 4MS, NOT Moog. And I honestly don't think Bob would of gave his blessings/ signed off on this one.

Now I love crazy sounds/ noises, but I really think they were having to grasping for straws tring create something just to release a new product. Seriously folks, 4MS pedals sound better, can be built with can be built to do anything that the Freqbox can- and MORE, be within the same price range (or less) and still have expression pedal capability.

Your paying for name on this one. Its a shame. I love my Mooger Ringmod and I think the rest of the Moogerfooger pedals are excellent.
But this is just uncalled for.

And yeah, their own demonstrator shouldn't be struggling so much to get a decent sound.

And I hear it... I do. But I just had to quit my job and resign from my university due to an injury... so unless you plan on donating one (or selling it at a very reduced price) to the Spanky Foundation, I have to bite my lip and bide my time on the FLOP.

You could always hold on to it for a couple of months... and let me buy it then ;-D

that demo video could have been better. like, they could have had the Envelope out triggering a Minimoog doing a huge rising up sound as they have 2 expression pedals changing the sounds at once as someone is playing serious licks.

The envelope out triggering the filter on a sequenced Moog loop? While playing through the FreqBox and controlling the Fooger with 2 Footpedals? IMO that setup would be better with the envelope running on the Fooger and the foot pedals controling the Mini sequence.
