The "contour body" moved to the end of the headstock during '64. The tuners aren't period correct and there are no pics of the end of the neck or closeups of the fingerboard at the headstock so it's hard to be certain what this thing is. No strap button hole on the back of the headstock as there almost always is, but wouldn't surprise me if Fender forgot to install one occasionally. Could be a re-decaled '70s A width P-Bass neck. Fingerboard might be replaced too. Could be a non Fender neck too. The salad bowl's hysterical! What the hell drugs are some people on?My theory is that it's not a Fender, but someone threw a Fender decal on the headstock. Shouldn't the "contour body" logo be closer to the end of the headstock?
I don't know that Fender has ever used a fingerboard like that (the fret lines are pretty fat...and might that be purple heart?). The body just looks like it has come from a kit bass. Though I guess it's nice to be able to take a salad bowl with you to the gig, and put it back on the bass when done eating.
I'd guess that the only things worth anything on that instrument is the Badass bridge and the Schaller tuners. It's pretty ambitious to want $400 for that bass.
