more basses = less skill?

will only 1 bass make you a better player?

People that say this probably can't afford a second or third bass, so rather than accept it and move on, they have to put down people that are better off out of jealousy. Just like the people who say "real bassists don't play with a pick" or "no one needs more than 4 strings," they should be disregarded and pitied.

usually and very likely the case.

I have more basses than skill and it's not because of the basses... It's because I've never taken a lesson and don't practice all that much. I can think of a few reasons to have different basses... Fretted vs fretless, different tunings (E, D, C), different tones (4 vs 5, P vs J vs Rick vs Ray vs whatever).

Not to mention that trying out different basses and exploring what's out there is fun as well.

So my question is this. Does having more than one bass hinder your playing. If you have 2 basses should they be of the same builder or brand?

Uh, that would be a "No". That's NO, double NO, and triple NO. :rollno:

I was about to state that I've never heard of anything so ridiculous...but then again, I've been a TalkBass member for awhile now.

From whence do these ignorant, superstitious fables originate, anyway? Who can even keep up with the constant flow of such nonsense?
