play professionally or seriously collect?
While looking around at a ship load of beautiful basses. I got to thinking, How many out there have more than 1 bass and don't play in a band as a profession?
I myself, have been on a ten year hiatus and just recently rejoined the fold. Originally, I had an Ibanez 400SG that I sold (like an idiot). What I stumbled upon (while innocently browsing a guitar shop) was a Geddy Lee sig. My choice was made a little hard because I was comparing it to a 24 Jazz. Well, in less than a week the 24 came home. Not long after though, a beautiful amber American deluxe P bass caught my attention (god, I love that neck). The next day it came home with me. I said to myself "oh lord, 3 basses" go figure.
Just when I thought it was over I classic 60's Mexican Jazz (sunburst) lept into my arms and has refused to leave ever since she made it into my basment and has become my main practice bass. Finally (and hopefully last for this year anyway), I could not keep away from the new American standard jazz (also in sunburst) which kept whispering into my ear "psst, you need me, you want me" Darn it, I'm a sucker. The new American standard P and a Mexi fretless what also make some nice additions to my...WHAT AM I SAYING?!
Here is the kicker, I'm not in a band and I don't consider myself a "real" collector. I don't collect for monetary value. If it sits and "collects" dust, it goes. To me, each one of my babies look, sound and feel different. Yet all bring a smile to my face. I also have no desire to join a band, I let go of that dream 20 years ago. However, I wouldn't mind later down the line hooking up with a couple of buddies for some cool jam sessions.
So, are there any guys out their that have more than one bass (the higher the better) and are "not" professionals (get paid to gig) or collectors for monetary reasons? If you gig for fun, that's ok.
Pics encouraged. I'll post in awhile.
