More than one P? J? Ray? Other?

Do you have more than one copy of a particular type of bass? Maybe two PJ basses? Or perhaps a pair of J basses? I'm wondering if one type if bass is more likely to be duplicated in one's collection?

Let me know what other classes of basses to add to the poll.

I have 2 split-coil P's, one with rounds, one with flats.
I have 2 'Ray basses, one fretted, one fretless.

I love Yamaha BB models with PJ, so always have two at hand.

trying to cut down at the moment, mostly just use the L2000 and the P, the other 2 are nice to have, but they're aren't necessary for the current project

It so happens the one type I have duplicated is P/J – even though it is my least favorite.
I've learned over the years that the caliber of a build usually matters more than the pickup type.

they're all fretless --- don't know how that figures into @darwin-bass' thinking, but there you have it.

I don't like having exact duplicates, but I do like having reasonably close variations. In other words, similar but not the same.
So I have two Ernie Balls - A Stingray and a Sterling (the model, not the brand). The Stingray has rounds for *that* sound, the Sterling has flats which sound terrific in a different way.
I have two Fender Jazz basses: A Flea signature with rounds for *that* sound and a Gold Foil (single pickup) with flats, which sounds a lot like my P-bass (that also has flats).
So I can grab any one of these 5 basses for a gig and sound like "me" but also enjoy a slightly different flavor.

I'll probably reduce the footprint again this year, keeping the Stingrays, a Precision, and a Jazz.

My theory (a Darwin in entitled to a theory, right?) is that the P bass is the most duplicated.

The PJ is an interesting spoiler. For some it is a P in disguise. Others who play it with both pickups on may consider it closer to a J.

And I'm waiting for @LadyLoveStingRay5 to vote and blow up the 'Ray column

Oh I’ve already voted…. however I recently bought a Fodera and my school of Stingray numbers is about to decrease .

I know of quite a few members here that have more Rics, T-Birds, jazz and precisions than my measly 6 Rays.

@Todd Hamby has about 5 times as many Rays as I do.

Dupes come from:

1. Maple/rosewood
2. Rounds/flats
3. Fretted/fretless

so, that's up to 8 copies of each lol (I actually tend to go flats+rosewood and rounds+maple, so that cuts it down to a measly four)

I currently have my old 78 P bass, a 68 Jazz and a PJ with a P body and a Jazz neck. I’m in the process of downsizing and will most likely end up with just the Jazz (which is too good to part with) and the PJ (which can cover my P bass needs). And, of course, my upright, which gets all of the work.

Soapbars are my favorite style of pickup.

I have 2 Precisions: one from the 70's with rounds, one in 60's style (custom built) with flats. And I have 8 Jazzes with one on the way. So yeah. Multiple Jazzes is fine. I also have 2 Stingrays, one with frets and one fretless.

Two identical MusicYo era Spirit XZ-25s, black, rosewood boards, all stock except for flat wounds on both and several Mr. Yuck stickers.

They do the job.
