Morley M2 Cliff Burton Fuzz Wah

Color me skeptical. In the 1990's Morley approached Jim Martin (Faith No More) about doing a reissue/signature Power Wah Fuzz. They sent him a number of prototypes, three or four of which I played. None was even close to the original Tel Ray pedal. I just don't think they have ever got the electro-optical part correct. LED's are not the answer IMO/IME.
Eventually, Jim declined to put his name on it and the idea died. I really hope Morley got some true Cliff aficionados to beta test this pedal before putting his name on it.

Interesting. Cool that they are going to reissue, but my first thought was that over the years I've seen many reissues of all types of gear that don't hold a candle to the originals. Hope that isn't the case here. I LOVE my Power Fuzz Wah. There is magic in that big box that I hope they recreate for more to enjoy.

I spoke to one of the dudes at Morley. Apparently, they had input from Rob Trujillo, the Metalli-dudes, their original guitar/bass tech, and a guy from a long time Metallica tribute band as Beta testers for feedback to get as close to the original as possible. They also had to get Ray Burton's stamp of approval, of course.

Am I mistaken that the Morley Bass wah's on switch only turns the unit on and that the actual effect only comes on when the foot tread is pressed down and once let go it pops back up automatically cutting the envelope off even though the unit is still on? If that is true and is the same for this unit I'm all about this pedal!
I've never had one that functioned like that but it would be cool if if did.
Either the switch turns it on and off just like a regular Crybaby. Except the switch isn't under the treadle which makes operating them a PITA. SO ratehr than step on one thing you need to tap dance and step on two. If you want a cocked wah sound then it's great, but if you're looking to make it go "wah wah wah" at aan exact part it can be a compromise.
Or the treadle turns it on and off and there is no separate switch(switchless).
I'm just assuming it functions the first way since it has a separate wah switch.
I think the Dual bass wah is like that. The switch only goes between two settings...normal wah and funk wah? I hate it when companies design newer pedals that are a PITA to use.
This makes me happy. I was a little concerned when I heard about the European release that Morley was trying to do an end around on getting an official licensing agreement with Ray to use Cliff's name and image. Knowing that they took the time to get Ray's approval and sought input from Robert and other bassists makes me feel better.
O.K. I guess I have to buy one too. Thanks again for the inside info. Please report here if you get to test it at NAMM.
I've actually already ordered one. Seeing as NAMM is this month I may not get it until later, but who knows.
