MORTRIX MIDI foot controller

Not exciting for those of us on the list waiting in the sidelines…

/whine
Start a support group? If enough of us whine in unison it might make sweet, sweet music. Now, that music won't be controlled by a seven inch touch screen, and we can still complain plenty, but we will have a sense of community and belonging to dull the pain. Stay strong.

I find it hard to believe that they would sell this without a manual. What they have online is not a manual, more like a few notes.
Small operation and life make certain things difficult to do all at once. I was originally down to do the manual but have had very major life issues taking place with my son these last several months that have left me no time for other stuff.

Morten is having to take care of everything (building, shipping, fixing bugs and writing the manual).

Please cut us some slack, we are only human.

It’s also slightly ironic that I have spent thousands of hours writing comprehensive manuals for the Future Impact that barely anyone reads anyway as folks ask for video demos instead, and then when I don’t manage manage to write a manual for a device that’s very intuitive and for which a fair few video demos exist, this happens.

I read the manuals before I buy anything. That's why I was surprised that they were selling these without one. Couldn't imagine trying to operate this unit with no instructions but it's not my business so nevermind. If they ever produce one I'll read it eventually.

I’m also an avid reader of manuals. Though I also wouldn’t let a missing or incomplete manual put me off if there were other avenues to get info (videos) etc. (The FI had pretty incomprehensible original documentation, I bought it anyway and figured it out for myself, started writing an ad hoc manual online for other users and then ultimately rewrote the entire manual for the company.) Also, distance selling rules apply so there’s always the option of suck-it-and-see and if you don’t like it, you return it.

If Morten had waited to complete the manual before selling, it would have delayed release hugely. It’s already a year later than the initial hoped release date. It also has been many years in development already (I’ve been working on it since 2020 and he’d already got a fair bit working before then.)

I’m happy that there have been users out there who saw what we were doing and have placed their trust in us to deliver what we set out to do.

Can’t stress enough: Mortrix isn’t Roland or Yamaha and doesn’t have those kinds of resources. There will be a full manual in due course, hopefully by then there’ll be enough documentation and user feedback for you to make a more informed decision.

It is designed to be incredibly intuitive to use. It was Morten’s main goal and that appears to have been achieved. Users are managing to do stuff without difficulty.

I’ve slowly been scratching the surface with mine and it is really easy to navigate thus far assuming the user has a basic idea of what MIDI can do and how those messages look! Seems like those are reasonable expectations from a user of a product like this, so I would say its a winner for me to start with

Nice to hear some positive feedback. Are you on the discord server? There are threads for bug reports, feature suggestions, general help.

Morten is also very quick to respond to any questions. MorningStar uses pretty much the same basic manual format as Mortrix.
While I appreciate the manual I find that the videos are pretty helpful.
You did a great job on the FI manual. I refer to it often and it is very much appreciated.
The only thing I’ve had to adjust to coming from the MC6 and MC6 Pro I’d how much easier the Mortrix is to use. Morten did a great job at making it intuitive and simple to use. I like the fact that I don’t have 16 different ways to use a foot switch. I only ever use the press command on my MC6 pro.
To me the Mortrix is on a whole new level.
My only complaint is not having enough time to dive in deep.

Morten and you did a great job at making it intuitive and simple to use.
Fixed that for you. ;-)

Morten really insisted on this. I had to push incredibly hard to get long press added and initially it was only on the utility tiles, which have a clearly marked secondary function. I’m hoping he’ll add a user-editable secondary function text box for other long press functions like I’ve been asking for for literally years as that will help keep long press functions visible. Also looks like state dependent dynamic text is now in progress (another thing I’ve begged for from the outset.

Thanks for your kind words about the FI manual. I put a lot of effort into that. I’ve actually begun working on a revision recently. ;-)

Good manuals are almost always a product of 'above & beyond the call of duty' efforts.
