MOST AMAZING 5 ALBUMS EVER

hey, guys,

just wanted your opinion on some thoughts i am having.

from the period about 1968-1973 David Bowie produced perhaps the most amazing collection of albums anybody ever has in such a short time. specifically the following:

SPACE ODDITY
HUNKY DORY
THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD
THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST
ALADDIN SANE

i know after that he went completely commercial, and frankly I don't listen to any of his later music. i do not hold it against him, because he did as he thought best....but

those 5 albums are unbelievable, great lyrics, great musicianship...just great songs.

space oddity had different personnel, but the last 4 had him backed up by the Spiders from Mars: mick ronson on guitar, trevor bolder on bass, mick woodmansy on drums--i believe they had some guest musicians on some, including rick wakeman on keys, but that was the basic lineup.

anyway, that's just my opinion, what do you think?

Well, not 5 but I'd have to include Jimi's material. Everything else were posthumous releases IIRC. Other than the Beatles records, I can't think of anything else I have listened to as much over the years.

i meant a run of albums by one group. (or in the case of Jimi Hendrix, by one person)

however, I did not mean this to be a comparison thread, obviously we may all have our choices about the greatest etc. I guess I did invite comparison by the title of my thread, and I don't mind it going in that direction....but

i was just trying to point out how f***ing amazing this particular group of albums is, not to detract from anybody else's personal favorites.

please excuse me if i did not make myself clear.

All by Genesis. If it was 6 albums I'd also include Nursery Cryme. Five absolutely stunning albums that I love to this day.

Fans of the Peter Gabriel incarnation of Genesis would argue that he was the main creative force and that they were finished when he left, but I'd say Steve Hackett had a greater songwriting input than any other single member (just listen to his solo stuff) and they wrote some of their best songs after Gabriel left.

however, I am pleased that for all the other suggestions, no one has said "Gee, Dave, you full of it...those Bowie Albums suck"

i still think the five David Bowie albums will stand up with any other group (doesn't have be 5) of albums ever made by anybody
