MOST AMAZING 5 ALBUMS EVER

Which 5 albums would you say were his best? I sort of checked out after Lovesexy or Diamonds and Pearls. Don't know jack about his later stuff.

Although I haven't listened to every Prince album that was ever released I've always found the ones I am familiar with to be a mixed affair: a few good tracks and lots of "filler". Of the albums I am familiar with (and those do include a bunch from the 90s onward) the ones I found to be the most consistent were Purple Rain and the Batman soundtrack.

Edit: I should have said "consistently good"...

I think you're right. Could you name the specific best albums of Miles? I only have Kind of Blue. (Doesn't everyone?)

If I could only pick one album to listen to on any given day it would be milestones. The musicians were burning up on every track...

Some other albums from that period:

Birth of the cool
Porgy and bess
'Round about midnight

Those plus kind of blue equal 5 ;)

Cool and thanks for the tip. I do know both of these albums. I agree about some hit and miss stuff. I think that is true of most albums.

Yeah, but I've found that to be especially true of Prince - and I've heard a lot of people criticise his albums on the same point. I mean, the guy has written and produced A LOT of good songs, but I just find most of the albums of his that I've heard to be weak. I mean Emancipation? Three CDs worth of what? :help:

Someone told me a recent album of his was excellent and sort of had a Motown old school R&B vibe to it. Do you know which one that is?

I would take a guess and say, Musicology. Probably his most solid outing of the last 10 years. 3121 is another good one to check out if you haven't listened since he had the issues with WB and went to the symbol/TAFKAP.
