Ha! Yeah, he's playing exactly what I always thought he was playing - but with all those artefacts, it sounds like he's playing it in a haunted funfair
I guess I should check it out but I REALLY don't care for AFI...mostly because of Davey's vocals but also because they always struck me as a kinda boring Misfits ripoff.
I don't really care for the Smiths but Quicksand does a pretty great cover of this song...very post-hardcore -
Incidentally, the bass is pretty prominent on a lot of Quicksand songs, so maybe they fit the topic of the thread pretty well?
Ran across a Smiths album years ago, only instrumentals. Tried to find it before, but no luck. It's a whole different experience, without vocals.
"Unreleased Demos and Instrumentals". Unofficial release, vinyl only IIRC. 2010 or 2011.
Always check YT…
Although most of the tracks do have vocals, but not as many guitar layers.
