How about the Godin Acoustibass with the tuning forks inside it? A very cool semi-acoustic fretless. Their new ones are cool too, with synth access.

But I think the tuning forks were more creative!

This is an interesting thread. "CREATIVE" means different things to different people, obviously.

To me its more than wild body shape. It's something that makes for a different "kind" of instrument..

In my opinion, this is the most creative bass, when it was first designed there wasn't much out there to copy, in fact aren't most basses out there a copy of this bass?

They seem to get overlooked a lot, but the current USA Steinbergers (the XQ's) will get you reasonably close to the sound of the classic Steinbergers for considerably less money than an L2 or XL2 from eBay, albeit without the original compact shape and with a graphite neck/wooden body combo instead of the one-piece, all-composite design. I picked up two XQ-2A's dirt-cheap from MusicYo's spring clearance and like the heck out of them. Just another option for those feeling "Stein-curious."

It definitely is unusual in the body shape, but this is also that Hyberbass Zon with the tuning levers in the bridge and all the hipshot detuners. I think it is pretty creative in terms of what it allows so I'll nominate it, even though I rarely tune other than standard.

i only like de-tuners for drop d, and even then i'm rarely in drop d.

That is such an awesome sound! Of all the things on TB, I didn't expect to get GAS from this...but GAS is upon me

Here's a really practical and straight forward EUB design that predates the "baby" bass by several years. One can say this is pretty creative for it's time (1936): [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] This is a Rickenbacker!!! Dig the ported reflex cabinet and the signature Rick horseshoe pickup that later was used on the 4001.
