Do not concur.

I don't think $500 for a brand new bass is overpriced.

And "generally pretty bad?" Inconsistant, perhaps, but I've found them to be generally pretty good, especially for the price. Sure...there are a few lemons, but this can be the case for any mass-produced item.

Now, if you're looking for downright superb, the Classic Series (70's Jazz, 60's Jazz and 50's Precision) are as nice as any MIA I've played.

Any job where a MM SR5 fits, I think a G&L L-2500 would fit equally well. Especially if you get it with the Single Coil option.
