Most Iconic (not best/most technical) basslines

So you're really asking for the most recognizable bass line.

Money? Owner of a Lonely Heart? Another One Bites The Dust?

Sure, very good candidates. But no. The answer is:

Linus and Lucy. Vince Guaraldi Trio - Monty Budwig on double bass. Not just the opening, but the break as well. Sure, people will call it "Peanuts" or "Snoopy" (often with a bunch of !!!!!!! if it's a child), but it's the most recognizable line out there.

Excellent suggestion. I don't think I'm after most recognizable per se since there are a dozen Motown basslines that fit what I'm looking for but I don't know if the average person would actually recognize them. That said, if the thread goes the direction of 'most recognizable,' I'm good with that. I mean, I had to learn the bass groove for Babyshark for a thing I was doing, recognizable: yes, iconic: not so much.

This guy is a cool guy and sick player. He does a lot of Iconic bass line type of things you're looking for. If I'm understanding correctly you're looking more for not the most craziest solo type of stuff, more the simple bass lines that make a song. I would say Andrew Freed in his "name the bassline series" covers a lot of basic basslines.

Here are some iconic basslines I think most people can understand it's a bass and not too overly technical (These are in no order just coming from my head!)

Roundabout by Yes
Come and Get your Love by Redbone
What's the Use? by Mac Miller (played by Thundercat)
Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen
Around The World by Daft Punk
These are just a few I could think of on the spot.
