Double Bass Most Schlepp-able Combo ...

I’m sure the Clarus and The Eight are an amazing combination - but it’s not a combo! I am interested in the acoustic image combos - they appear to have gotten pretty sophisticated.

There will be no P.A. system - this is for remote cocktail set ups away from the main stage or event room.

I’ve read that the Henriksens are top notch but alas have never encountered one in the wild.

I did a rehearsal recently with two bassists and the fellow had one of those micro mark amps - I was skeptical at first but it sounded great actually. I assume GC might still keep these in stock and the price seems reasonable.

Thinking along the lines of a GK MB combo - but investigating other more modern options via the TB think tank!

True, my suggestion is not a "combo". All the listed combos' speaker systems don't come close to the MAS-1,8. And, the AI Clarus is exceptional. Alas, the perfect "combo".

Velcro 'em together if that fixes it.

There's something disconcerting about yellow speakers. :woot:

Again, not a combo solution per se, but you can't go wrong with Arnopol's cabs. I have the Grace Designs Alix preamp, and I'd love to try it into a powered version of the MAS18 mentioned above. I've used several other MAS cabs with various heads and they are all killer. The Alix would fit in your gig bag, so almost like a combo!

Could I mention the Genz Benz Shuttle. I’ve got the 10” speaker version and it does it all for a DB player. Unfortunately it is now discontinued but good examples come up for sale from time to time. It comes with a great gig bag as well. Not too long ago I had mine up for sale (I soon realised the error of my ways and withdrew) and a guy offered me a lot of money just for the gig bag!

I have the 12" edition with a 6.0 head and have to 'second' the Shuttle to the list.

I'm happy with my Ibanez Promethean P3110. Used it on everything from stringswing to big band gigs.

I have the 6.2 with two 12". Been looking for the 10" for years, but no luck.

They've actually had it for a couple o
I forgot about the promethian - thought they were discontinued? I checked the manual but no info on input impedance.

Jason,
They definitely still build them, they discontinued the really nice Promethian with the removable head. From my experince they don't sound as good as I'd hoped. The input impedance on the P20 that I own is 470 K ohms. I've dug through all the manuals
but I can't find a input impediance for the 3110 or the 5110 that they discontinued.

I've just been practicing with the new bass cube that I mentioned that I had ordered...

Just musing -- it strikes me that just like specifically practicing slap, pizz and arco, if a person is going to use any amp, it's appropriate to also specifically practice whatever techniques will be used with that amp -- and that's after getting that amp dialed in for a particular bass.

I'm seeing so many playing techniques that I want to tweak when using the amp -- and I'm speaking about in a good way, playing is much more relaxed.

After spending a day with my amp, I don't think I would want to go to an amped gig without having practiced with it... Too many surprises.

Just one quick additional discovery, after another day of practicing with a shlepp-able amp...

I'm finding that for me, there is nothing like practicing with an amp to reveal the arco techniques that need work. After a few hours of bowed terror, turning off the amp reveals arco polish that I had never heard coming from my bow and bass before.

I have the powered MAS 1-8 and felix preamp. They work great and I had a custom bag with shoulder strap made to hold the two. I think in total, it's about 25 lbs. This summer, my gigs have been outdoors and usually with a PA and sound guy so my amp gets used more as a stage monitor for me and the band.

Maple,
Would you be kind enough to post a couple of pictures of the custom bag you had made for your
Felix/MAS 18 combo. I sent my specs of to Le Cover and I'd like to see what you had done to get the
components into one bag. Thanks in advance.

It didn’t turn out quite the way I wanted. The pocket was supposed to be on the side and be bigger. But this still fits my Felix and cables
