Most versatile SVT???

The 2 pro has a drive control, graphic EQ and maybe some other things I really don't know. It was my understanding that it was a similar to the CL circuit. Without the extras in use it probably sounds closer to the CL. I wish I could do more than speculate but I've never had the opportunity to play one.

I've A/B'd a 2PRO vs a CL, and with the same EQ settings they sound almost identical. So, at the end of the day, I would consider the 2PRO more versatile than the CL. They can often be found for cheaper as well.

Most guys around here rave about the SVT 2 (not PRO) being the next best thing Ampeg ever made over the original SVT.

with any tube head that has a graphic you are introducing a solid state circuit in the middel of all the tubes. For those of you that are purists you should be cognizant of that. IME when there is a graphic in a tube pre/tube power head, it almost always is the last thing before the power amp.

You don't have to use the graphic equalizer in the 2 Pro. It's there if you want it.

Dont get the 810 unless you have roadies to carry it for you, I just picked up the 410HLF and hooked it up next to my 82' 810 and I think it sounds just as good if not a little better. And its a lot lighter.

Haven't got my (lightwieght ) head yet but I was going for the 7 pro , until I got a new GB SHuttle 6.0 for $395 (should be here Monday)

Interesting. I know they're solid state circuits (would it even be possible to make a tube graphic EQ?), but I didn't know that they're usually the last thing before the power amp. I assume that this is the case with the Mesa D-180 as well?

I love my SVT 2 Pro. Regarding the GEQ, it should be noted that it has an On/Off switch, so it can be taken completely out of the signal path.

Personally, I don't ever use the GEQ on mine - EXCEPT for one special case. I have the footswitch, which has 2 buttons - Mute, and GEQ On/Off. I have set that up before so that I can switch the GEQ On/Off while playing. But, even then, I had the GEQ set flat and just had the GEQ's Boost/Cut slider (affects whole signal, kind of like secondary Gain knob or something) set to bump up the volume a little. So, I was really just using the footswitch as a way to bump my volume a fixed amount.
