Most Versitile Mutli Effects Pedal Ever

The way I look at multis is a giant bag full of tricks for cheap.

The GT-10b is a great unit (the cheaper VB-99) but lacks in synth. I put a EHX bass microsynth in the effects loop and all my problems are solved. I can manage a decent OD and fuzz that won't blow your socks off but certainly does the job live.

All this to say, I love having a $325 (used) pedal that does what 5 pedals can (and does them well).

Completely agree. I do the same with a Markbass Super Synth instead of the EHX (both the GT-10B and MBSS are relatively new purchases for me) and I'm getting a lot of sounds I really like.

Remember to use the pitch change effect in your GT-10B to get slightly detuned copies of your synth sound. I use this after even just envelope-filtered dirt/fuzz, and it sounds incredibly synth-like. That "detuned oscillator" sound gives instaant "synth" cred.

Having just priced up the unit, floor controller, stand, pickup and pup-unit cable I'm a bit upset

The mounting isn't as horrible looking as I imagined. I feel more weird about 2 cords running out of my bass. I run effects like OD or Fuzz into the unit and use them in parallel with synthesis or effects chains I put together, it takes the Roland cord from the pickup and a regular cord from my bass to do this. You should check the manual out.
The price is steep but the amount of stuff it can do is staggering.

I've been working with the VBass VB-99 a bit lately and it's very versatile allowing you to get some great tones out of a single bass. Great bass modeling and effects, orders of magnitude better than the GT-10B with respect to versatility ans sound. It ain't cheap, but it is worth it.

Note: The VB-99 isn't a pedal.

The only way I can see using it live is to buy the foot controller as well.

I've used it live numerous times, you can assign up to five patches that you can quickly switch to by just pressing a button. I sit when I play and do not need to switch sounds while playing in most cases. I've used on theater gigs and gospel gigs.

I guess having it on a stand next to you while sitting would make it much more reasonable. I just have trouble seeing myself using it because:

a) the money
b) having the thing elevated on a stand for easy access where I play often isn't practical and could easily lead to it crashing to the floor. (hence the need for a foot pedal...and then we're back to point "a" again)

It really is the penultimate for bass right now.
I just let GAS for a Dingwall get the better of me and I have to pay my health insurance for the year soon-ish. I will get another one.
